turboxs RFL bov adjustment
Wednesday, July 13, 2005 5:34 PM
hey, for all of you who have this BOV, whats the best way to adjust it? when i blow off at low rpms, it "chatters" (which i heard could be due to poor adjustment?) Any general consensus on how many washers to use at about 8psi of boost? Any general opinion on best way to decide whether to add more or less? Thanks a bunch.

Mine chattered at 10psi with all of the washers in it. I actually thought it sounded pretty cool.

I'm running mine with 2 washers. With 6 I would get alot of chatter and compressor stall any time I shifted under 3k. Now it sounds pretty good, and is holding solid at 7-8 psi.

I want to use one of these bov's too and I see that its recommended for engines pushing 10-20psi... I'm gonna be doing 8-10 psi... does this matter? I'm not trying to hijack the thread here.... just dont want mine to chatter...

I am guessing that the chatter is compressor surge. I have a RFL and I hear chatters when I left off the gas right before it gets into boost. It will also do a quick chatter before blowing off when running lower boost.

Oh yea, I also watched my RFL blow off when it was hitting around 6-8psi.....You would left off the throttle, hear about 1 second of chatter, and then the bov would open. I am not using any washers.

My blow off valve is just like Adlers:

just before I get into boost if I let off it has compressor surge (chatter)... and at very very low boost it will chatter (surge) and then blow off.

Chatter is NOT good, the bov is there to prevent it.

I wonder if this is a problem with all of the RFLs . Or maybe they are just ment for high boost. When I am running higher boost, the turbo doesnt chatter as much when the blow off valve opens.

Well I don't have the same BOV as you Adler... mine's a turbosmart type1...

I'm just saying mine does the same thing.

And at high boost she blows off PERFECTLY.

so the opinion is this: on any car running like 6-10 psi, you get some of that pshshpshpshpshpsh chattering at low boost, and right before blowing off. i guess its not that big a deal.... if its happening to everyone i guess it just must be the bov, no matter how its adjusted.
