I remember a few months back Orange Z did a write up to help people running the Apexi SAFC 2 for people with the GM Supercharger on a pre 2000. Befor I start the install on my 98Z, I want to get all the info I can. I hopefully will install it Friday, and hopefully have it done by the end of the weekend because I dont know much about forced induction and no one will help me who does, lol.
All the help I can get I will take,
Chris

I cant find them either, I would like to have another copy as well because I know the original post was incorrect in some aspects.
Question ~ are the eco wires from the 95- 99 z24 all the same color? If not does anyone know the correct color wires for a 99.
Thanks
Chris
NY J bodies has a write up,
clicky here
They also have a pinout for 1997, 1999, and 2000 j-bodies, you said your is a '98, so that means you need the '97 pinout.
here is the link to that part.
all you do to install the SAFC or emanage is just splice into some wires, it's easier than you think. Good luck though, hope that helps!

ohh and Sweetnlow I am pretty sure the only difference in the '99 is the RPM lead, I don't think you have one right on the ECU, or it is 1/2 the real RPM or something. I think people were pulling their RPM signal from the fuse box for the '99 engine, but I have a '98 so I could be wrong. Connect it all up and see if you get a good RPM signal or not.

my post
there ya go guys read the whole thing because i mixed some stuff up in my first post from translation from paper lol everything was covered and fixed in the post eventually so like i said read the whole thing
anyways if ya need anything let me know
whats a good reference for the eco guys with the 03+ cavys? I plan on getting a SAFC for my car and would like to know a good guide to follow?
yeah, I would also like some directions for my ECO

I agree, however the hard part it tuning
Anyone have any tips this is my major concern.
Thanks
Chris
By the way, just a little heads up.
When you have it installed and you set it to how many cylinders you have, your going to usually put 4 cylinders cause you have 4 cylinders. If you do so, you will only read half your actual rpms your actually making (example: if your doing 5000 RPMs, it will only read 2500 RPMs). A quick fix is to set it to that you have 2 cylinders.
The reason it does this is because we are powered with 2 coils. Thought I'd give you guys a headsup so you don't freak out when you do install it.
By setting it at 2 cylinders, it will not effect your car in a negative manner.

That is only if you can't find a full tach signal. Those 2.4L's who tap directly from the Tach signal on the ECU will get a full tach signal. My SAFC is set to 4 cylinders and reads the correct RPM's.
Ah ok. Well as you know I have the ECOTEC, so I'm speaking more on the ECOTEC side of things.

Got any more???? :-)
Yes, find out for sure if your running Rich or Lean. I went to a shop and they ran my car on a dyno and found that I was running Rich. They tuned it down very little and something happened and lost my info so I had to street tune it and man I really needed to turn it down alot and gained alot more power from street tuning and knowing which direction I really needed to go torwards.
ANOTHER big tip. The reason I lost my info was because the guy who installed the SAFC-2 did souder the wires. They slowly came out. First my screen went, then the power was going on and off and threw my car into Limp mode while I was on the Highway (man that sucked). If I didn't have it soudered by another place in time, I would have shorted it out. So yeah...that's my biggest tip...limp mode isn't fun.

ok how about the resister that is used for the map sensor??? is there a rule of thumb or anything like that. I am going to find out what the voltage is on the sensor but then what??

ok never mind I found the post I was looking for about the resistor

Do you use the new Map sensor that came with the GM S/C kit or the one allready on the car for 1999?
Same question for the injectors, I know they changed the impadence of the injectors mid year in the 99. So do I buy new ones or use the ones with the kit?
Eco guys on here:
If you use the j-bodies of New York diagrams, make sure you follow wire NAMES and not COLORS! ( caps lock excites me) Use the Eco pinouts to find the names of the different wires. There is an older walk-thru of the first SAFC unit on a 2.4 I believe that can be used as a guide. Again, the safest way is to rely on wire names, not colors. People are so bent on what color goes to what.
Also, if you don't solder the wires use those metal sleeves that you put on the splice and crush it to keep it together. (And lots of electrical tape
)
If you print out the wiring directions for the Ecotec E-manage setup also found on the NY j's site, it will help out a ton. Both the SAFC and Greddy units utilize many of the same wires. It's actually really easy to do(besides the resistor trick which I haven't attempted yet.)
To summarize my rambling:
Print out: Eco pinout, old SAFC install, Eco Emanage install.....SAFC instructions...I think thats it.
I also have my # of cylinders set at 2 to obtain a full RPM reading. Good luck!
