How to wire in a GTP 4-wire O2 Sensor?
Tuesday, June 28, 2005 7:14 AM
I'm having an O2 problem due to the O2 being too far away from the manifold. I was told by a couple of .Org members that if I use the GTP O2 sensor it should fix my problem. They just never said how to wire the four wire sensor into the Cavalier's one wire.

that's a good question. i doubt it would be compliant with our PCM.

I don;t understand why you would need a GTP O2 sensor cause yours is too far away from the manifold. Could somebody fill me in.

just get some wiring and extend it honestly...

I did extend the wire to the factory O2 sensor, but since it was originally in the manifold and now it is at the end of the downpipe it is taking too long to heat up and the carruns like crap for a couple min until it heats up.

I'm just sitting and smiling at the amount of misinformation in this thread already .

Yes - it compliments our PCM, the sensor is a 4 wire. High signal, low signal, ground and power for the heater.

The reason you upgrade to this 02 sensor is it's HEATED unlike the 1 wire piece of garbage GM gave us.

The reason he needs it is his 02 sensor is now too far away from the manifold/turbo to heat up fast enough for when the car comes out of closed loop so it chugs and runs like donkey dirt.

I hope that clears it up for you.

I have been running this sensor for 2 months now - it cleared my startup problems and is actually more accurate than the stock sensor.

Mike, I have the wire color diagram at home, you only hook up 3 wires from the sensor... I'll need to look at it to be 100% sure for you what the colors are to hook up BUT I can tell you the wire you don't hook up is the low signal output.

Thanks for the info, post the wire diagram when you get a chance.

i've used a '89 ford escort 3 wire heated o2 sensor for over a year, and it works great. the cost is less then $30 also.

im building a boosted 2.4 am i going to run into this problem also and if so do you guys recommend the gtp sensor and if so how does it wire in?

SunfighterGT, did you get a chance to look at the wiring diagram for the sensor. I'd like to install it as soon as possible.

Finally anyone obtain the diagram?

Thanks,

look at casperselectronics.com , the sell a 4 wire to older set up

or atleast they used to

although not sure why your having any problems , when i had a turbo , nothing had to be extended , and even with a header i didnt have to extend anything

also caspers sell's premade extensions

I have a 4 wire as well, I hooked the High and Low to stock parts.......... (mine was 2 wire stock).....

The power I ran off of a 12v source that stays on while the key is in the "on" position. and obviously grounded out the other wire (ground)......

Friend mine OEM O2 sensor is 2-wire too, black (O2 signal) and grey (O2 ground). But do you have color code or pin-out of the 4-wire sensor. I know that should be, two wires for the heated system, O2 ground and O2 signal, but which wires (colors) are to each function?

Thanks,

Lee. According to the way you just explained that install, you did it wrong.

Interesting.

Eliot, you're right about the functions of the 2 stock wires. High signal for the GTP sensor goes to stock 02 signal, ground to ground, power to switched power, low signal is not used.
