Well i test drove a SRT-4 today (my friend used to have one and totalled it, havnt driven one since then) And it really didnt feel much faster than my Sunfire...
Then tonight when the temps dropped (i was a lil on the cold side on the ride home with my windows down) and i got into it (my car) And damn... it pulled like it has never pulled before, it sucks how much a difference the heat makes with a s/c.... Now im strongly considering having the local speed shop bend me some chargepipes and do a top mount intercooler with a STI scoop. It may be ugly but i shouldnt lose any pressure with a top mount and it will definetly help on the hot days.

Ok, i should refrase that.. it wouldnt be a STI scoop right off the car, but it would function the same, i would try to find something that flows with the curves of my car a little more.

I'm not sure if there is room for a top mount under the hood of our cars, I would go with a front mount.

^^^ Agreed 100%
no room whatsoever... my strut bar barely fits
Hmm... i was thinking a top mount because i wont lose any PSI.... Guess ill go with the bigger pulley and then do a intercooler.... Im sure the loss of 2 psi would be made up on these 100 degree days with the intercooler but i think at night i would lose power.
Im thinkin with the 10psi pully it would heat it up enough that the intercooler would help even at night.

If your really worried about this why not get another pulley?

i hear ya. cold nights = fun fun fun .
Cant do the pully right now because i dont have the money to have the head milled... I dunno, my friend works in a customization shop so we can bend intercooler piping for free.... i might just do the intercooler first. I dunno if it will cause me to lose power or not though... im sure on hot days it will help but does anyone think it would make a noticable difference since its a s/c?

and why, for a pulley, would you have to have the head milled?

SRT-4's are junk. I don't know about the whole concept of going over 120mph in a Neon with a few toys... Seems a little irky to me.
You know where most of the boost lost is from when intercooling? The cooling of the air causes it to become more dense, which reduces the pressure. When I intercooled my old Z, it lost about 1.5 psi at the manifold, but pulled insanely harder. Same pre-intercooler psi, but more power. Do it!
O noes!
Why not put the intercooler behind the front bumper, more of a pressure drop? Having the intercooler under the hood would probably soak in alot of the heat.

Exactly. You might lose a little bit of PSI, but the cooler air is going to increase your power. For instant if you have acess hook a scanner or computer up to your car and see what the intake temps are. On the Reaper non-intercooled in the Summer it was 243 degree's. That was on 6psi. The intercooler would drop that down to probably 143 degrees (on a hot summer day).

there is a solution that i will be trying soon to cool things down water-alky injection, theres no pressure loss and its cheap and virtually in unlimited supply and power gains are more than an intercooler
1989 Turbo Trans Am #82, 2007 Cobalt SS G85
and octane goes up...

I am using a top mount where th battery was. The intercooler couples right to the intake manifold (high output engine) and then the other side goes right over the fuel lines into the turbo. I have maybe 2ft of charge pipes - so little that I actually had to put my blow-off on the other side of the intercooler. I will have pictures when I get exhaust and all on it and it is streetable.

Alcohol will probably be your best bet... depending on what mixture you are using, but it can cool way more then an intercooler can and there is no pressure loss.. plus your engine will be sooo clean as it steam cleans the insides as well and raises your octane approximately 10points (so your 94 gas is now 104
) there for also greatly reducing the chances of knock.
If you want to do a top mount You could get a smaller IC and put it over by the battery, Make a opening in the hood and put a scoop on it. Short charge pipes, cools air. Doesn't look too bad.

You have to cut off the EGR port, i believe other countrys use the EGR but on the american models its just a ear hanging off the side of the block behind/under the p/s pump. Its currently capped off but it is right in the way of a bigger pully. Which is why the Ecotecs are limited to 6 psi... however if you cut that off you can run as much boost as your heart desires.

this would help you, you could also intercool it and do the alcohol injection as well, getting all gaines, with a bigger pulley too.

the pully that would mount to the charger is smaller.... i still dont really see why clearence would be an issue.

The pully on the supercharger is as small as it can be... Belt slippage is already inevitable unless you put on the Gatorback belt which is .5inches smaller than the one supplied. So putting a SMALLER pully on the Supercharger itself is out of the question.
Only other option is a bigger DRIVE pully, which is limited by the placement of the EGR port.

i see, then my next question is this, have you considered changing the gear ratio in side the gear box.?
