couple s/c questions
Saturday, May 07, 2005 4:37 PM
alright, as some of you know, Im not too happy with my s/c.
1. because it gets heat soaked way too easily
2.^^^^=slow

so my q's are
1. what color is the lubricant inside the nose drive? if its red then how would i go about replacing it. cause when i got the s/c there was red liquid around the nose drive connection to the s/c part. i think its gone, leaked out cause even after being off for two hours its still hot as heck.
2. would a 180 degree thermo help me for my s/c heat soak problem?
3. s/c's love cold air, right?
and last
4. synthetic oil would help me keep the temps down, correct?

thanks again guys

Don't know about putting in the thermostat, but i did the cooling fan override and when you leave the fan on it seems to help keep the air flowing over the charger and reduce the heat soak. I also put a piece of reflective insulation on my heater hose that goes into the firewall right by the header. This dropped the temps about 10 degrees. I have also switched to synthetic and put on an oil cooler. The oil cooler seems to keep the head alot cooler.

what are you trying to keep cold? The engine? Blower? or both? Cause a thermostat wont do anying for the blower. It wont do much for the engne either. The engine will just stay in the closed loop mode and waste gas. What size pulley are you running? You could try a water injection kit to cool the charger.

Water injection or Alcohol injection is your only way to get rid of the heat soak and it will do it better then most intercoolers will, just you have to keep filling up the tank.

heat soak occors from 2 ways, ( from my experence with mine any way..)
1 your driving and racing the ---- out of it.
2.. and would get mine hotter... faster.... shuting the car off and letting all the heat conduts throught the head and into the intake manafold...... mine would acualy stay cooler running at the track when i was wateing to run, as a aposed to shuting it off.
a cooler thermostat. i tought of it, but its not really a fix...
heat is a problem, but its the nature of the beast when it comes to positive displacment superchagers.

oil in hte snout? thay have prepacked bearings in the snout, the oil in the gear box is lite oil and should be replaced every 30K, ( i know GM says its mantioous free, but if it makes noise... somthings wearing in side.) thats what ive heard with the M-62's and M-90's from the GTP boys.

whats slow to you? i was only running low 14's with mine. cut a 13.9 a cuple of times with ice and perfact conditions, ( close to sea leavel, cool out side.)

well slow is slower than i ran without the s/c. 15.9, but i think i found out the problem, well most of it. ive been putting in speedway and bp gas for awhile now, and just had to get gas and got thorntons, well it seems to have waken it up a lot. so no more crapy gas lol. im thinking about getting another radiator fan, and doing the override and keep it on most of the time and see what that does.

Friends is well know that the worst enemy in positive supercharger setups is heat, hot compressed air and heat soak. Then any degree you can cool the stuff, better performance you will get. It is a fact.

Hot compressed air is the worst issue and can be fixed using some type of intercooling or some fluid injection (water, alcohol and nitrous).

Also heat soaking affects, and can be fixed trying to isolate as much as possible heat from the SC body.

I am planing my SC initial low boost setup for the hot climate of my country. I will be using a custom phenolic spacer (from honda's scene many people have success using the Jackson Racing SC and the Hondata Heatshield), an oil cooler, a bigger lower air deflector (to help forcing more air to the radiator at high speeds - maybe I can get some type of ground suction bonus effect - is a dream but who knows), and a RK Sport cold air intake (the black extension).

Regards,

take the blanket off of the hood, it will lower underhood temps quite abit and is only installed there for noise dampening.

lower underhood temps is always a good thing to hear..im gonna try that for my turbo =)

install an oil cooler for the oil going to the charger that will keep it cooler definetly

dosent matter how cool the oil is for the GM supercharger guys... the supercharger dosent use oil from your car.... its all internaly lubed.

could you tell me what the color is for the lube? cause when i got the s/c some part where the s/c connects to the snout was leaking red liquid and i dont know if that was the lube or not. and if it is red then how would i go about replacing the lube?

As Rodimus is doing....I will also be using the cry02 system....

That will cure the heatsoak.....

Rodimus out of curiosity are u going to be using just one intake bulb? I heard that you could hook up multiple ones to cool the air even more....I was gonna try it out and see if its true....

It's kind of a neon yellowish color.

The cryo2 system will not do jack for you unless you have an intercooler to spray the co2 on. the little bulb for an intake track system is too small of surface area to actually cool down your intake temps effectively. Rodimus, if you are going with it, you'll need an intercooler for your rsm setup. Bobby, it won't do a thing for your situation since you've got the gm supercharger. I suggest for your situation and everybody else with the GM supercharger to go with an alcohol injection setup. My car runs amazing with my setup. Do a search on here for alcohol injection and you'll come up with the thread I was posting on with updates on my system.

Exactly what i said.... The ONLY way you can get rid of heat soak on the GM supercharger is with Alcohol Injection... there is no other way around it.... no intake will do it for you.

when we were having heak soak problems on the race trucks, we ran a wooden spacer. it didnt let as much heat from the engine get onto the carbs. any chance these will help out a little?
