Well...cobalt SS is here...i want my SC kit for my cav!! anyone have any news they can fill me in on yet?
thanks
if its any thing like the 2.4L Supercharged kit from GM you will have another year or so to wait... and they didn't have the best luck with the 2.4L kit's so i wouldn't hold your breath..
Supercharged 2.4L
If it's anything like the LD9 kit, they'll wait until they're no longer selling the 2.2L engines they're designing it for and then they'll charge about the same as it would cost for one of the used cars it works with.
Just as you could no longer get a new LD9 j-body when the kit for them came out, it's looking more and more likely that you won't be able to buy a new Ecotec powered j-body by the time this new kit comes out... if it ever does.
At least the Delta buyers might benefit though.
yeah its called the 2.0 s/c crate motor
This is the reply i got when i e-mailed them about a week and a half ago....
We appreciate your e-mail Mr. Delbridge regarding the 2.2L Ecotec
Supercharger. There is one in development which should be available
mid to
late summer 2005. We do not have any information about the
supercharger at
this time.
We recommend keeping in contact with your local GM Performance Parts
Dealer
for product release updates.
Too bad you'll call your local dealer and most of them know less than those of us on the org do....

I got a thing in the mail from pontiac that said it should be released soon. Although... that was a month ago.
well we had a gm guy at our big j-bash recently and he was saying it should be out like mid july but not to hold him to that

LOL at all these people that tell you guys that it will be out soon. They said the same about the 2.4 one. Of course they are gonna tell you that guys. They want you to keep your car or buy another chevy/pontiac/saturn or whatever the hell has the eco in it nowadays.
here is my problem here----i want this kit--no doubt about it....but...
Why is GM going to release a supercharger for the 2.2L Ecotec when they have the Cobalt SS on the market. For those that were at the Bash, you may remember the big "unveiling" they had going on and how all these GM bigwigs were talking about how the Cobalt "is the car that will move Lordstown Ohio into the 21st century and beyond"..or some crap like that. So, why sell a supercharger kit that will make it so that Joe Blow can go out, buy a base model Cobalt or Cavalier (just using these 2 as an example), supercharge it, and maybe be faster than the "money maker" SS for less money most likely (considering the cost of an SS)? My theory, they want to get a good look at sales numbers for the Cobalt and Cobalt SS before they release anything. This is why at the Bash we were told "late 2004, early 2005" on those little cards they handed out, and now, who knows when.
Some will disagree with me I'm sure (damn optimists
), but that is my take on it.
im sure the guy made a typographical mistake, he musta meant summer 2006.

The same guy told us it would be out by the end of the summer 2004.... and obviously that didn't happen. We cornered him two months later at NOPI and he said they had pushed it back so it wouldn't f---- up Cobalt SS sales, so i would say as soon as the SS has been fully released nationally for at least a month or two, you won't be seeing the 2.2 s/c. They were supposed to be out in the fall its not May and i haven't seen a single SS in jersey yet, just now starting to see two doors so i guess it'll be soon.

there needs to be a sticky on this
1989 Turbo Trans Am #82, 2007 Cobalt SS G85
there are other merits to the cobalt SS other than the speed, they've attempted upping the quality of interior and exterior panels in craftsmanship and consitency.
I wanna try on out
