Which wideband to go with???
Wednesday, April 20, 2005 5:20 PM
Which wideband unit should I go with. Either the LM1, the PLX 300, or which ever. I need some input . Whether it be about data logging, or functionality, which one works best???? Get the idea? I need some of that deciding info. I can't make up my mind one which one I should get. Thanks.

I would go with one of Innovate's standalone gauges. http://www.carcustoms.net has the LM1 and those new standalone kits. Just like the LM-1 but also has a gauge and no bulky control box.

Buy stuff from CarCustoms Ebay! Won't be disappointed!

What about the Zeitronix Zt-2 unit? Do you have any comments about it?

The plx 300 only gives you a readout and 2 analog outputs-0 to 1v and 0 to 5v. It has no possible PC communications. Cost about $330.

The plx 400 gives you (internal) logging and PC connectivity. Logs 4- 0 to 5V channels at 10hz for 1 hour. same to analog outputs as the 300... 0 to 1v and 0 to 5v. $470

The Innovate LM1 gives you a readout, (internal) logging of A/F ratio for 44minutes at 12hz, and 2 fully scalable analog outputs. Unit has PC connectivity and analog outs are programmed via PC. $349 also available with an expansion box that allows logging 5 more channels (1- frequency, 4 0 to 5v) at the same 12hz for 44 minutes --- $429.

Innovate also the LC1 controller. It has no display or logging. It has 2 scalable outputs and full PC connectivity. $199

Both the LM1 or the LC1 can be connected to the XD1 readout, which is a 2" gauge face that can control either unit. Price varies if part of a kit. Unit alone (not in any kit ) is $99.

The Zeitronix Zt-2 offers a Controller with PC connectivity, EGT input, and up to 5 other inputs (using their sensors). No readout. And 2 non-adjustable outputs (0 to 1v narrowband, 0 to 3.5v wideband). Datalogging is done (external) via a PC with proper software and can be up to 74hz. $279
There is an upgrade kit for the Zeitronix Zt-2 that adds a display for $399.

DynoJet has a kit that has RPM and TPS inputs, can log data (internal) for 10 minutes at 10hz, has a relay control output, has a 2" display, and has full PC connectivity. around $499
SIde note: The LM1 is now a standard option when purchasing a Mustang Dyno.

The LM-1 is a nice unit but yes their Standalone unit is superb!

Hmmmm....soo many to choose from. I think I may be leaning towards the Lm-1 with the 2" gauge and datalogger....I'm not sure. Still need some really decisive info. to make my choice. Thank a lot guys!!!!! By the way Todd, how's it going with 2.3L bin file ?????

opinions:
PLX devices cost too much for what you actually get.

Dynojet is a complete package with no options to buy, but you pay for more than you generally need and pay for the name. Relay output is nice though...especially for use with nitrous.

Innovative's is a good package, whichever package you choose. adjustable analog outputs have many more uses than are easily seen. An output set to 5v at 12.8:1 and 0v at 13:1 can easily operate a small Radioshack 5v relay and accomplish almost the same thing as the Dynojet output. Except it can't be triggered by 3 things at once (TPS, RPM and AF) as the Dynojet unit can. Karo's prices on the Innovate products are much better than the list prices I put in above.

The Zeitronix stuff seems like a good deal, although the base unit's capabilities are mildly disappointing. The price for the options seems very high to me. An Innovate LC1 does everything the base Z2 does for about $100 less.

No, I havent had any luck with the bin file. I've been really busy with other things and havent spent much time with it.

ive got the lm1 and have been happy with it

and ive got the stand alone gauge coming from karo

personally , the difference in prices and the bells-n-whistles are all optional , as long as you can see the gauge while testing , racing , dynoing , the data logging to me is a option thing not always needed , but it is nice to free you up from other duties

Thanks for the info. guys, still deciding which one. Todd, thanks for the info. That makes things a little clearer. By the way, I just picked up a 2.3L from a 93 olds achieva with the 5 speed for a $100.00. Only problem is that the head has a crack. No big deal. Time for the BUILD.
