Car wants to stall out with brown top injectors...
Sunday, April 10, 2005 8:24 PM
hey whats up?
I put the brown top injectors in my car.I set the idle fuel pressure between 30-35 psi,and set my s-afc to -30%.When i come to a stop sign,or rev it in neutral, the rpm dips to like 500 or so and the car wants to stall out.It already stalled out on me once. Its kind of annoying and embarrassing.Does anyone else have this problem? What can i do to fix this?It didnt do this with my stock injectors.

No,if i didnt have a wideband,id think it was running rich too.It runs lean when it wants to stall out.

why not raise the fuel pressure up 2 psi tell it goes away ????????

i got the same problem, not sure what the hell it is

maybe like 97cavie24ls said we should try increasing the psi and then taking more away from the injector could be they dont like low pressure

maybe try to turn up your idle on the t/b. i sorta had this problem with my 9lb flyhwheel. when i came to a stop sign, or had the car in the middle of the RPM range and pushed in the clutch the car would go down to 500 rpms then back to normal. same problem too i think i was running too rich with the fuel set up i had at that time too.

someone said that turning up the idle wont make a difference as it is computer controlled. It helped me out though. and i also heard in drilling a small hole in the t/b butterfly plate to help let air in during idle. i guess that was on some HO' motors.

or u can try when coming to a stop, push in the clutch when your rpm's are around 1500. that seemed to work better with not having the RPMS bounce around alot.

I had the same problem but not anymore.
Mine was because I had Brown tops (low impedance) on an Eco (high impedance), once I soldered resistors, no more of that problem.
Now I am not sayng that you guys need resistors, but that is what helped me.

Also, MY car, feels like it is missing when I rev it up and it is cold with these big injectors, and if I run it whatnot hard before it is warmed up at least a 1/4 it will fall down a little like y'all's maybe down to like 700 , but I know what to and what not to do with it.

So I just wait till it warms up a little and I have NO problems.
Maybe you guys dropped psi down too damn much, try running it at stock 45 psi on idle and see if it still has the same problem. Cause when I had brown tops on a LD9 and put the psi down to 20-25 the car barely idled. NOT ENOUGH PSI!!

I have had that problem since my car was stock. I first noticed it after a burnout at the strip, it stalled upon pushing the clutch. Also, free reving would cause it. I brought it in to the dealer a couple times and of course they "couldn't duplicate the problem". I think I still have the problem (haven't really tested it since the turbo) and I have bigger injectors, afr, HO intake, 2.3 TB. etc. My point is, I know these things didn't cause mine since it was doing it before, so maybe it's computer related or something???

Mine did that with stock injectors and H.O injectors.

Added my MSD box and it stopped doing it.

Now with the MSD box and the same setup as you peter the car runs fine.

I donno!

im gonna try boosting up the psi to like 40ish and taking some more fuel out with the safcII and ill let you know how i make out

i'm running the brown tops w/ the s/c program, and the car would want to die when i'd go from a stop. so, i raised my fuel pressure from stock, 43ish psi, to 50psi at idle, and then everything ran smoothly. i did this about a year ago and the car still runs the same. hope this helps.

gee i wonder how many percent i would have to take off at 50psi ....

if there 35lbs @ 38psi then @ 50psi they will = 40.1lbs which means i would have to take about 40% off the injector pulse to = 24lbs

does this sound right guys?

wouldnt this throw a low volt code from the map?

I tried raising the fuel pressure alittle bit,but it didnt help at all.Maybe ill try to raise it a little bit more, hopefully that will help.Raising the idle on the throttle body sounds like a good idea too.If i can raise it to 1000 rpm, that would be good because the s-afc adjustments dont start until 1000 anyway.I wouldnt buy another msd box again.I had the dis-2 and it burnt out on me.I have to figure something out,the car stalled out on me 4 times today in traffic. Also the check engine light came on yesterday from stalling, now my car shakes alittle bit at idle.I have to get a scanner and see what the code is.I regret boosting this car,its one problem after another.

well whats your wideband say, it should be your friend at this point no?

i got mine set a 55psi right now and it does the same thing, when had it set at 25 psi it idled fine, but i was running to lean

Yeah, the wideband is the best thing i invested in.
I can get the wideband to read around 14.7 at idle with no problem.I can set the idle psi anywhere between 25-40 and still get a pefect a/f ratio with the s-afc.When the revs come down after giving it gas, the a/f ratio reads 16.0-20.0.

even at 25psi they would be run rich at 28lbs....

did you use anything to take away fuel dan?

i had my s-afc set at like -20 at idle

i feel ur pain ptr... one problem after another. i almost wish i would have totalled the car a year ago, saved the money, and i could be rollin in 500 wheel on my ws6 (supercharged). but i don't like to give up. Basically i just gave up on the injectors. Anyone want a set let me know, i'll let em go for cheap!

my car stalls 2 every time i come to a stop its really getting annoying so if anyone finds a fix this would be sweet.
Re: Car wants to stall out with brown top injector

You guys need to get a datalogger on there and figure out exactly what is causing the stall. If the injector pulsewidth is too high and flooding the engine then thats one issue, or the map sensor could be providing a higher than atmospheric causing the car to think the sensor is giving a bad signal, and cutting fuel anyway. There are a lot of things that could cause it.
