Gas Mileage with Boost

Hey I am new to this turbo thing but I was wondering how much gas mileage you guys lose with say 8-10 psi. I know there is a lot of varibles like injectors tuneing A/F ratios but I am just wondering about how much you would get to a tank. Before and After stories would be the best I think..

Thanx Charles

same as before, if your driving normally your not makeing 8-10PSI of boost. If you drive your car hard all day, then your gonna lose alot of MPG, but i dont think anyone does that.

^ like he said no huge difference(gm charger at least) but thats driving same as before the charger! ive seen that thing suck some gas when going on roadtrips with friends to car shows! but that could have been avoided

i usually average about 23mpg. But that peddle on the right always seems to be stuck on the floor and i can't find out whats causing it to stick so that doesn't help. LOL. But that should be dropping pretty damn fast when the 550cc injectors go in

I have the GM supercharger and my gas milage is horible compaired to what it was before... i use to get about 540-560km's per tank (338-350miles) and now with the GM supercharger even when i dont race at all... and go easy on it all the time and stick to the Speed limits i only get between 450-500km's (281-313miles) and 500km's it pushing it right to empty... does any one think there might be somthing wrong? I just got the kit on maybe 3 weeks ago and my car has a total of 32,100kms (20,063miles) on it.

when i first got it the milage was lousy too....cause i was still trying to get used to the whine with decent trips i get well into 300 miles. but just driving around town to work and back the milage has always sucked (bout 6 miles to work- all backroads). also freebs where do you live? mileage blows in the heat or with the A/C on

another thing to think about is with the supercharger you have another pulley so that is one more thing that the motor has to turn which makes it have to work a little harder. Not to mention the 310cc injectors that come with the kit

My 5 psi of boost with normal drive and sometimes having some fun on the freeway with 3 speed auto, does get around 350 miles on one tank when half is used on the freeway and half is in the city. I do not think my freeway gas mileage is any better than my street because of the 3 speed automatic transmission.

The Reaper has 360C injectors and it you are driving normal on the highway it gets better gas mileage than my all motor J gets. Around 350-400 a tank. A lot has to do with the tune, but a big park is how you drive it.
For the guy who just got the GM charger and lost a lot of gas mileage, well I have seena few of your post, and you talk about always geting in to it with your car, so I think it is your driving.

^Agreed
In my case, when I was N/A, I got a steady 22 mpg-city just like the EPA said. Now that I am boosted and when I am driving normal, I get 23 mpg-city. When I get on it, which is not to often, I get about 20 mpg-city.
So in most cases I got an improvement.

I would normally say that this post is gay considering that you shouldn't worry about boosting your car if you care about how much gas you are burning. But now that that republican slime ball is back in office again, there is no end to how much the price will go up. Do you think he would put a cap on how high the prices can go? Hell no. His friends and family are thriving from our need for fossil fuel's. We have less freedom's than you think. They are raping the working people in every major field. Transportation, health , taxes. etc.... So glad all those hillbilly conservatives voted him back in. Sorry , I had to vent. Gas is going up to 3.50 a gallon in Chicago by summertime.

No haha I don't care about the price and stuff I was just wondering how much it would drop. Like a guy I work with in the summer his freind has a Cuda' and he has to refuel gas in between Aberdeen and Watertown. Thats about a 100 or so miles and I was jsut hopeing thast not what would happen. I mean this guys car is all done up and runs low 11's high 10's and is still streetable and I knew it wouldnt be that bad. But yea I just wanted to know about how much to a tank.

A few of you guys said you were getting around 300 to a tank. My z24 with a brand new motor gets bout 260-280 everytank. Its all city driving but that just seems like it is low for gast mileage. Also my car is auto and idles around 1300 rpms and I dont know how to fix that. My old motor got about 280-290 everytank and idled at around 8-900 rpms. Maybe its just not broke in yet who konws.

i heard that if you had a bigger turbo that you would get bad gas mileage if you didnt nail the gas pedal. rhis is becuase your not always in boost. this correct? in that case. what size turbo would be sufficient?

Screw gas mileage. That's not your problem.

What's really painful is that you're paying 20-40 cents more for premium gas now!!

bluzr2 - I live in Calgary Alberta, up in Canada. And i have only had the S/C on for the last 3 weeks and for the hole time its been like -10 degrees C and colder. So i have been seeing a constant 5psi of boost from my car... And even the other night when it was the coldest i saw it get between 5-6psi a few times.

boostedeco - Yea i know what you mean. But i think the 310cc injectors are whats killing my gas mileage the most... But i am hopping it will be like my car when it was Naturally Aspirated and it took until 21,000kms (13,125miles) to get really good gas mileage... And so maybe after a while of breaking in the supercharger and the computer getting use to it, i will start to get better gas mileage ( as of today i am just over 32,000kms / 20,000miles on the car) and only about 550kms (344miles) of thoughs are with the Supercharger

Does the computer need some time to learn how much fuel to use? How many miles should it take before it gets stuff optimized?

Mine's totally sucking back the gas today... but I'm not ready to blame the blower just yet. I think I'm working up an addiction to that whining noise. Of course, I know full well that whine=boost and boost=guzzling.

Re: Gas Mileage with Boost

mine did that at first, it sucked alot of gas when i first had it installed, but now it doesnt seem to burn as much fuel. Maybe its cause i dont get on it as much. . .idk.

if you are dishing out money for a blower setup, invest in an Innovative LM-1 wideband

Is that a fact or a rule of thumb? What's a "driving cycle"? Just one time out around town? Is going to the store and coming back 2 driving cycles?
