Walbro fuel cut issue / brass nipple
Tuesday, March 08, 2005 5:45 AM
I have searched and searched and something is still not clear to me on this Walbro fuel cut problem.
Some people are not cutting the cup when installing the Walbro and not having any problems with fuel cut when between 1/2 - 1/4th of a tank. Are they still using that little black plastic tube that slips over the little brass nipple of the stock pump? If so, what is the part # for that fuel pump?

And then there are other people who have cut the bottom of the cup without any fuel starvation problems.

I'm using a 255lph Walbro pump from apeusa.com. I called them up and told them I needed the pump and install kit for a cavalier. The pump had a hole for the fitting but my 2000 cavalier had a plastic fitting molded into the top of the stock pump. To fix this, I grabbed a piece of nitrous tubing and shoved it in there. For some reason, the stock black tube for the cup jet was too short so I replaced it with some RC car fuel line tubing. I knew the stuff would work fine with gasoline because being the idiot I was in 6th grade, I bought some turbo blue (104 octane gasoline) and tried to run it through my gas powered RC car. haha

I've had the pump in since August and haven't had a single problem. I'm pretty friggin low on gas right now too (maybe 1/8th tank left)

Install kit #27 is what you need from apeusa.com

Thanks for the reply.....

What do you mean by "nitrous tubing"? You mean a hard line that people use for direct port?

Correct. It's about a half mm thicker than the port itself so it squeezes in there quite nicely.

Not a hint of fuel cut what-so-ever using the method I used. I drove around during lunch too just to make sure. now I'm below 1/8 tank. hehe. I should go fill up though. It's like 5 degrees in michigan right now.

Good info, I've been watching this develop for a long time now, nice to see someone has figured out how to do this without having to make any sacrifices in driveability or convenience!

spoolin2200cav and Sunfighter GT, you guys did not cut the cup right? Are you still using the little black hose that suppose to slip over the brass nipple of the stock pump?

Adler,

I didn't use the original black hose with mine for two reasons:

1. Hard as hell to push over the nitrous line
2.For some reason, the line ended up being too short. Don't remember why that happened.

My pump install looks exactly like what RedDevil posted except that I used the nitrous line and RC hose instead.

Also forgot about the rubber spacer to take up the extra space in the cup. Make sure you use rubber that is gasoline safe.

I have a question. What kind of fuel pressures are the GM kits and turbos running with the reflash???

i have the un cut cup walbro pump from where MR pute got it and i get fuel cut at 1/4 tank ish'. I had the blazer pump with the cut cup and it would fuel cut like crazy.

I have that little line hooked back up too. I Forget how bad the fuel cut is, i think it isnt that bad but still sorta sucks u have to roll around with more then a half tank all the time.

Also with my pump, i ran outta gas right when the needle was b4 E . i wanted to see how low i can get it b4 i ran out. I know my guage is right though.

anything was better then the stock fuel pump i had at first..

some people have good luck with the un cut cup blazer pump and some dont.

Hopefully I can find some bolts for the differential / ring gear by Sunday . If I have time tomorrow, I will put the pump in. Now I just need to figure out why the car is bogging when its not in boost .

ya, my fuel pressure wont go under 50psi at idle with the stock FPR and Injectors. I have a cartech FMU too. But it drives /runs perfect.

With the stock pump i couldnt hold 50psi of pressure(when i had a adjustable FPR).

good luck adler

mr. pute i was going to use r/c nitro line also when i did my install but i was told by the guys at the r/c shop that nitro line will turn all mushy after awhile if used with gasoiline so you might want to keep an eye on it.
