Saab Intake manifold bolt hole location question
Wednesday, October 24, 2012 10:15 PM
So after a couple days of research I have not found my answer so I thought I would try posting it here.

I know you have to drill and tap a new hole in the saab intake manifold for the L61 tb to work.
After test fitting I realized three of the holes line up perfectly, and the fourth hole has a gap between the intake manifold and the tb.
My concern is if you drill and tap the intake manifold as is it will create uneven pressure on the manifold and possibly allow for a leak.
My question is:

Can you weld in the gap, grind it down to create an even surface, then drill and tap it?
What have people done for this?

I have taken pictures to illustrate the problem

Problem bolt hole

There is a ridge on the intake manifold that creates the gap

This is the gap, I put some light to it so you can see what I'm talking about

Thank you in advance for any help on this subject

For mine, I just put the other three bolts in loosely and pushed the TB as far down and to the right as it would go. That kept the hole that I had to drill and tap on the flat surface of the manifold. Been running the saab manifold for about 7 months without any issues.

just lock down the 3 and drill the 4th, all the other holes go all the way threw.

dont forget to drill the hole for the iac of it wont idle

Thanks snowman, I was waiting for you to chime in. I looked through 20 pages of your posts last night to try and find the answer and couldn't find it.
also austind1993, your solution also sounds like it would work.
