After driving my 2005 Pontiac sunfire. I have come to realize the power is just not there.( not enough).
And this brings me to boost. I would like to supercharge.
Three questions as of now. One being for the intake manifold would it be as" simple" as taking one off a 2.0 or 2.4 supercharged cobalt and if not what options are there?
Also when installing a system such as the one on my sunfire what has everyone run into as for total cost. Before any labour.
Also what are used turbos goin for price wise 500 plus tax?
You can get a good used turbo for MUCH less than that. The price for a supercharger is really high. In mine and I'm gonna say most others opinions on this site, turbos are just better all around. Cheaper for sure (there are people here who have had Saab setups for under 900$) and they can go further performance wise. If you can find a lower intake manifold from an ss/SC you will probably pay close to 400 $ used

in my book, better, yes
cheaper, not a chance in hell, unless you go with a cheaper lower power kit.
turbo is way more complex and a lot more parts to make fit for it to work.
price is what i am really looking for. i dont want to buy crap though. i will not be racing the car... however I would like the extra power from the get go an am not looking to put out the money for a newer car...
is there another intake manifold that will work for this application.
what kind of damage will this do pocket wise.

For a basic kit yes. Like a Saab kit at 10psi which will be a bit below the 250 HP mark it what I'm referring to. But then there is room to replace build and expand. If you want 11 second passes.
I spent probably a bit less than 2k for my whole setup. I'm running a t3 from a single turbo nissan 300zx with the reflash. Everything else is top quality name brand parts, no crap.
My build cost to date:
$400 bucks for my eco parts car
$50 for fluids during swap
$500 for the used supercharger kit I found locally, minus tune, idler, and belt
$180 for Belt and Tune
$120 for idler
so my build ran me about $1250
Everything I am using minus a few parts to run the s/c that the guy didnt have were all sourced
through Kijiji/Local Classifieds
At one point I had parts for a T3/4 Hybrid with an intercooler and what not I bought off Garrett from Calgary for 500 bucks, wasnt the best but it gives you a starting point
Plus I had a sexy pile of go fast goodies
I'd say figure out exactly what you want, and take the time to do it right. I wouldnt advise being like me and buying everything you see on Kijiji and not knowing what route you want to go. But that being said, if you dont need cherry stuff look in classifieds/ craigslist/ kijiji. I almost crapped my pants twice seeing a s/c kit for 500 bucks
had a blown ecotec swapped 2000 cavy, now just an 02 Grand Am, and a 74 BMW 2002...
SC kit is going to be better for a daily driver. 2 reasons, you can actually get a decent tune on one without a stand alone and you have that nice low end grunt that makes daily driving much more enjoyable.
You cant tune a turbo right on this pcm but you can almost tune a blower right you say? yes I do say. Our fueling is proportional to throttle position. The blower moves air proportional to tp almost all the time. A turbo does not. Personally I would never run a turbo on one of these cars without a standalone. You just cant get the tune right, its not possible. I know theres tons of them out there and I'm sure they can all confess that if your'e just driving around and mash the gas the car goes super rich and bogs for just a second and then the boost kicks in. Or they dont go super rich for that second and just run lean once they have boost.

i never had problems tuning for turbo. running an fmu makes it easier, but still, even with no fmu i havent found it difficult to tune for turbos on these cars. only time i have experienced the mash the gas and bog down rich is when you are cruising at 50 at like 2200rpm in 5th gear and mash it... which it is obvious it is going to do that because of the gear you are in and how the rpms dont climb at all when you do that. i think as long as u arent being silly about when you mash the gas, the tuning isnt a problem.
i just pieced together a saab turbo kit... i paid 200 for a pretty much brand new turbo and 100 for the manifold to match....i have about 125 in the oil and coolant lines and 200 for the intercooler and piping plus 40 bucks for the downpipe flange...so for well under a grand i got everthing.... go to car-part.com and look at turbo prices... no mater how you look at it turbo is more efficient your making power with waste not power with power.... and since gm discontinued the supercharger kit its harder to find parts... i was gonna use the m62 till i couldnt find a tb adapter

terrible excuse, someone on here sells them and there's group buys all the time. I also have a cad file I've released thats free to anyone for them to take to their local machinist to get one made. Use the search function.
