turbo problem

Ok so to start out i want to say that i made sure all my pipes are connected and when the car is off the propeller in the turbo spins free.
So i was driving down hwy 94 last night and the car seems to be driving great and the turbo is winding up and all the sudden i hear a pop and my turbo stops working completely but the car continues to drive but it now acts like there is no turbo on the car at all. But when i let off the gas and accelerate again the turbo will wind back up and then pop again so i went home popped the hood and took off the air filter and turned the car back on to see if the turbo would even work still and the propeller wont spin now unless im accelerating. I have no idea what the problem could be. Does anyone have any ideas? This is my only car and i need to be able to drive it.

Also if there is something wrong with the turbo itself then would i be better off just buying a new one or taking apart this one that i have now and rebuilding it?

Sound like the bearings went out and the turbo is locking up, or you have something that got into the exhaust and is stopping the turbo from spinning. I'm betting on the first one.

At least rebuild kits are fairly cheap...

have you tried to spin turbine wheel while engine off to see if it's locked up.it sounds to me like one of the turbo clamps is loose,ya got some boost till it blows out the hose.
