Supercharged Ecotec QUestions
Tuesday, November 10, 2009 10:02 PM
So I decided that I want a supercharger because it can cause less problems, is cheaper, is easier to install, and makes good boost....I have a 2003 2.2L ecotec cavalier and I was wondering which kit I should start out on..I have seen incomplete kits here on JBO, but I am looking for a complete kit or just any good info you guys can head me towards..I originally wanted Turbo because I loved the sound, but I have heard too many horror stories about them, and I'd like to not blow up my engine. Thanks!
Justin

reread the stories again. most problems could have been avoided on those turbo stories. it's prob just as cheap now to build a turbo kit. i've heard either the price went up for the complete kit on paceperformance and crate engine depot and it's no longer avail on gmpd. what do you mean by which kit should you start on? it's only one s/c kit. then there are upgrades to that which need more money put in to them as well as the supporting mods.

ur probley better off putting a kit together cause i know at gm the s/c kit is disconnected or the part number had changed i cant remember, the hardest part of putting a kit to gether is the t/b apater need to put ur t/b on the s/c but their is a gp goin on to have the adpaters made or u can make one ur self, and also making the tmap harness adapter to plug ur iat connector and map connector to the s/c tmap. i made a list on the boost fourm of part numbers u will need if u put a kit together.

U may not be able to use those injectors, I'm a cobalt guy, but everyhing else should bolt right up. Wire in the 2.5bar map from the lsj. And the injectors they r including are high impendance. I know my buddy with the 2.6l quad uses low impendance. Donb know if ur cavy is or low or high sorry. U may wanna look into it. Either way it's a good deal. U get all the parts for a bit over 1k

how would i go about getting different pulleys for it? the only thing i know about s/c is that the different size pulleys change how much boost your cars get...am i right? can i use a regular boost gauge and innovate wideband gauge and sensor with this?

the list didn't state alternator bracket, idler pulley or tensioner assembly.

cavaliers have resale value?

stupidity + modding = broken stuff.

doesn't matter s/c, turbo, nitrous, or bolt ons.... if you don't do it right, you'll pay in the long run.

Why? Save yourself a lot of pain later and don't mod until you're doing great with finances.

im not sure i understand why your supercharging over turbocharging???? you said turbocharging causes too many problems but a supercharger is the same concept. whether its a supercharger or a turbocharger its still boost and anytime you boost an engine problems will occur reguardless.....

The GM SC Kit Part #17800003 is still available as of 10-01-09 for 2778.34 from John Hall Chevrolet in Daytona Beach, FL. I'm finally installing the kit tommoro and I have so many concerns, it's not even funny. lol. Did that make sense? anyhow...everyone please wish me luck...o and this is my motto, "You have to pay to play."
