Well guys the time for boost on CLC has come.
I have the money to do both, and from what I gather, searching my local yards and such, I can do either the saab kit with the high pressure td04 from a wrecked saab or an m62 supercharger kit from a wrecked cobat/ion for about the same price.
Which will make more power?
If I went with the m62 I'd probably run the 3.1 pulley right off the bat.
Yet with the turbo of course upping psi is as simple as adjusting the wastegate.
Pro's and con's of both?
Let me know what you guys think.
friend made 200whp and 270wtq with the td04
depends what u want out of the car! two completely different forms of boost. and i would only run the 3.1 on the m62 if u have the supporting mods and a decent tune to go with it. i actually keep depating goin up a pulley size because i can see quite a bit of knock with the 3.1 if its something u want to make all out fast i say go with the saab. easy to upgrade and will make tons of power. if u just want a lil more power go with the m62. can b a lil more reliable but are heat mosters and do seem to have a limit as to how much power they will make. they tend to make too much heat and become unefficient for lots of power. either way u can have alot of fun driving.
I've ridden in cars with both setups.
Both makes gobs of instant torque.
That's why I'm stumped.
Check the link in my sig. Cheap route to massive power.
I never liked the supercharger myself, having had turbo before, and after the sc, turbo is the only way to go. Only way i'd go sc is if it was going to be a dedicated roadrace/autocross car.
If i ever boost another J it will be turboed.
I like my M62, but it leaves me wanting more.

I say saab. In most cases you see people ditching the sc in favor of a turbo setup, specially with the ld9 because of the limited m45. I got bored with my m45 setup even with 2.6 pully, alchy, and a 75 shot which I then went turbo. Plus one of the main reasons I love the turbo is just because of the exhaust tone.
All in all, I say go saab. If you get bored with that you can always change manifolds, turbo's,wastegates, bovs etc etc. Much better in the long run, and with the smaller saab turbo you wont realy have any lag problems or anything.
Ohhh shiaat SON, Charlie talkin about BOOOST!!!

if you have easy access to both and they are about the same price - Saab turbo no contest.
Both are good reliabe setups. I have yet to see if anyone has taken the saab turbo to the max but 13s can be had easily. With the M62 again it's however far you choose to take it. Turbos don't take power to make power like the s/c so with less boost you would have more power anyways.
Supercharges are nice for the low end instant power and great reliability but not easily upgraded if you want more power. WIth the tubo you can just go to a bigger turbo if you max the other one out. Had I started my cavy over again, it would have had a turbo.

how much does a saab kit run outta a junk yard

Saab.. Also you can make a very quiet sleeper with the saab if you want too.

I'm convinced, a lot of big names that I trust in here telling me saab.
Plus I love un-raspy exhaust
Ive had both and enjoyed the super more for daily drivin, fun lil car.
if i had the choice i would go supercharged again
i like my supercharger..

from all of us that have had the saab.... go with the saab! full boost comes fast, and like someone said above... if u wanna upgrade to a bigger turbo, all you need is new manifold and turbo... and a little bit of adjusting pipes. its really a pretty fun lil turbo
charlie dont be a pussy get a turbo lol
Go with the m62, run a 2.6 on single pass ic system, dual h/e's, 60lbs injectors, and u have a good 330whp...zzp did it on their lsj, and the got 365whp out of the m62 with the 2.6 w/cams and a electric water pump. So the m62 has more potential than the Saab kit.
Boost boost!
Saab for sure buddy

Nobody yet knows what the full potential of the saab kit yet because know one has done the pistons and rods like your example above. It probably wont hit those numbers but with the TD04 big wheel upgrade, and some porting done on the manifold, i believe it could match or pass those numbers.
