MP45 LD9 - 6600rpm limiter?
Saturday, March 21, 2009 2:11 PM
So I got a bit of time on the HP Tuners and got some of the governors/limiters changed. I changed the rev limiter to 6600 rpm. I know this isn't much more than stock but do you think this will make any difference on the 1/4 track being able to rev it out a little further? I don't want to rev it too high yet until I get the engine built but not sure how high I should set it would sacrificing reliability for the summer. So I thought 6600 wouldn't hurt it too much for the time being. Anyways, any help would be appreciated.

I have mine set at the same. So far no issues.

I had mine set at 7100. Stock everything except for secret cams. I hit that a few times with no problems.

Mines set at 6700, haven't hit it yet thou. Very possibly when I get to the track next time. Might bump it to 6800. I hate having to shift at the end of the 1/4.

I set mine at 7,000 with all stock internals and I hit it many times. I think it would help. Clipping the rev limeter on the 1st/2nd shift with a manual trans is a for sure way to kill a decent 1/4 mile time.

If I remember correct I hit the limiter a lot last summer on the 1/4 mile. Especially 1st and 2nd, and often in 3rd trying to squeeze as much out of 3rd as I could before hitting 4th. Seems like at almost the end of the track with my tranny I have to shift to 4th. Not too far along in 4th when I cross the line. So maybe if I can rev it out a little bit more may be able to get a little better time. I think I'm gonna set it at 7000 just so I won't hit the limiter off the line and then I'll just shift at whatever rpm from 2nd to 3rd, above 6500. Thanks for the help. Hopefully the car handles it ok for the summer. I won't be reving above 6500 much on the street anyways, just on the track. She'll need a decent build at the end of it after I am done with it this summer

I would advise against anything of 6600rpm. My car stopped making power around 5k, and the 7k shifts actually slowed my car down in the 1/4 mile. Maybe with HO cams and a supercharger you can rev to 7k and still make power

I had mine at i believe 6800 and it pulled GREAT all the way up. I had a fully built motor though.

I'm gonna see what happens with the dyno curve...I'll set it at 7000 and see what the curve looks like...whatever looks good above the factory 6500 I will set it at. Right now I'm thinking in the 6700-6800 range where I may set it, but its hard to say until I get the injectors under control and get it on the dyno. I'll let you know saturday.

where exactly does the secret cams stop making power at? i know the stock ld9 cams have the end of the powerband near 5700 5800 rpms, does the secret cams shift it any higher like the HO cams are???

I have some dyno's that I'm going to post.

First one is the last dyno from my 01 Z24 with cams and no tuning.

Next one from my 01 Z24 no cams, no tuning, intake, TB, catback

This last one is from my 97 Z24. no cams, TB intake, catback

Now I do n ot see much difference, but not sure what tuning would have done.

You should be safe up to 7k, I think thats where the VE tables run out anyway
