DOES ANYBODY KNOW IF THE COBALT SS ALTERNATOR WILL WORK IN THE JBODIES. MY ALTERNATOR WENT OUT IN THE SUNFIRE. IT HAS THE GM SUPERCHARGER SO I WAS THINKING OF GETTING THE COBALT SS SUPERCHARGER SO THAT IT IS MADE TO SPIN THE RIGHT WAY.
i AM GOING TO LOOK INTO BUT IF ANYBODY HAS A QUICK ANSWER LET ME KNOW?
THANKS

SO THE CONNECTOR FOR THE GENERATOR WORKS ON THE COBALT GENERATOR
hmmmm........... i know 2 people who were running it. But i dont recall about the connector
fstcavz24 and 97cavie
made to spin the right way? what...?? i highly doubt GM would have put a supercharger kit on the market that continues the factory warranty if the alternator was spinning too fast/too slow.
it probly went out due to the fact that you spin the crap outta it beating on it all the time
I have one on my car and It works just fine and the connector is the same, I also was told to buy it when I bought the blower because of the reverse spinning of the alternator, they said without changing it that the stock one would wear out faster.
It's plug and play w the SC and GM recommends upgrading to the SS alternator. The SC will spin the OEM 2.2 alt backwards which means the cooling fins are worthless. I have a low mileage SS alternator for sale from when I was SC'ed. It looks brand new still. I bought the alternator with a GM dealer employee discount and it still cost $150-175 for it. I'm willing to let it go for MUCH cheaper.
Yep FstCavZ24s alternator he has is in perfect condition I took it out of his car personally when he converted to turbo again. And yes the ONLY reason the SS Alt. is recommended is for heat issues ONLY. You can get away with it in colder climates but for those of us in the pacific southwest its a really good idea to get the SS one for the correct rotational direction of the cooling fins. I have been running an SS one from day one. If yours died you might as well upgrade to the SS and buy fstcavz24s because they are NOT cheap at all even as we both bought em with GM employee discount plus you get the benefit of a slightly more powerful alternator.

Well it is my chicks sunfire that is supercharged so it's her beating the crap out of it. Which is funny that you say that cause we started having problems with it when we were at Import Faceoff Car Show. she was racing her car at the show and man it seemed the battery will not keep chargered. and I think it is because it was getting to hot. she went through 2 batteries during the whole competition. But in a better not she beat a turboed Supra in the finals to win 150 bucks.
see:
anyone happen to know the part # for it?

just the way the belt changes from the belt going over the alternator to now going under the alternator.
sorry just to add to this. You know I had that problem when she was racing at the track with her sunfire but now the dang car runs fine. I guess I just over worked the alternator that day. cause it has been starting and working fine since that last sunday. I have it a work today so I am going to get some amp readings and I will let yall know what to expect with a spinning backwards alternator. lol
You can't run without a/c. There has to be a pulley there or it just won't work, this has been discussed in a couple different threads.

The power output of the Alternator will not change regardless of how the rotor is spun within the stator. As said before the only thing that is "technically" spinning backwards is the cooling fins that cool the stator and rotor. The operation/function of the Alternator is unchanged.
