It didn't happen at first but after a week or so of driving, one of my pullies started squeeking. Sometimes its loud and sometimes its not as loud but you can still hear it. I went to a 3.1 pulley using the stock belt. The belt is not slipping, but is having maybe not the right amount of tension on the system causing this squeel? With GM stage2 kit for the cobalt, the pulley is almost the same size as the 3.1 & they include a smaller belt. Would getting a smaller belt help with my issue?
some reference #'s
Current pulley installed
3.1in = 78.74mm
GM stage 2 pulley
3.066in = 77.9mm

The stage two belt will help. I recently delt with the same thing. I had a little belt noise at start up with the 3.0 pulley.
mine is squealing too.........i have a 3.1 or 3.0 i dont remember.
but instead of getting a new belt i just put some washers on the a/c compressor to move it away from the block. Took up the slack real easy, 2-3 washers per mounting bolt.
also my a/c compressor is just a dummy pulley, so i dont know if the washers will effect a/c performance.
My 3.0 squeals a little when i first start the car in the morning, but then it goes away after like 30 seconds and doesn't come back till the next morning.
03supercharged - I have that same color ecotec!! Its gotta be the best color out!! The 20% tint all around made my car look so clean but I only got 16" Motegi MR7 Silver's
2005 LS Auto (Blue)
-M62 Kit with 3.1"
-ZZP S3 H/E setup
-Pacesetter armor coated header
-Magnaflow 22" resonator (p/n 10436)
-Vibrant CatBack
-TTR Upper and Lower motor mounts
mine use to do that put i got a gates belt for the cobalt ss
Seems the smaller pulley gets you the squeal unless you go with the Stage II belt?
What if yo got another tensioner from the guys at Pully Boys or another place...then the stock one would be fine?
Eh...old man with a Corvette now...it was bound to happen sooner rather than later right?
Won't spacing out the a/c compressor cause the belt to not be aligned with the other pulleys? Im going to order the stage 2 belt from chevy today and see if that helps. I will follow up if this helps eliminate the squeeking noise.

go look how the a/c compressor is mounted.......then come back and ask your question.
it will keep it where it is but just push it outwards......making more tension on the belt
i have the zzp 3.1 pulley and have no issues with squealing or other noises.
Snowman, your right. I should of have looked at how it is mounted. Thats a great solution with out having to dish out 50 bucks on a stage belt. Unfortunatly I just picked one up earlier today. I will install it tomorrow night and ill post up if it solves my problem.
Those of you running with the 3.0 pulley, are you running on stock internals and was there any other modifications needed to support that size pulley?

Just waiting for it to blow.
I used the the ZZP adjustable tensioner bracket with great results, although the ac idea is great and cheap (just a lil time consuming).

I don't have any internal mods yet, they are all in my room waiting for when i put the car away for the winter, I have the pacesetter header with 2.5 full exhaust, AEM intake and the cobra heat exchanger, I have had that on the car for over 9 months and had no issues other then the belt sqealing once in awhile in the morning, but that goes away in about 30 secs.

Update...
The belt worked for about a week. My squealing came back. I don't want people to read this thread thinking that getting the new belt will fix this problem. It may, and then again it may not. I will try to pinpoint where the squealing is coming from, find a solution, and try to keep this thread updated.

have you replaced the tensioner?
No I haven't, but I will look at it tonight to see if thats where the noise is coming form. I got a buddy who mechanic whos gonna take a look for me. I tried to look at it a few days ago but I just wasn't too sure. It seem that the noise is coming from either the tensioner or the charger bearing in the snout. I'll post back.
K. Vega I got 10,000 miles on the tensioner, and 32000 miles on the car. Any known issues of tensioners going bad? Bad bearings?

I''m not sure I'll check the balt forums and see whats up. Im having a similar issue. A slight squeal. very loud at start up.
Tomorrow I am going to take the belt off clean it off, spray all the pulleys down with brake cleaner or just wipe them all down. tighten the Alternator Bolts and place the belt back on and see if the problem goes away.
i figured out my squeal.....
my belt wasnt lined up right
seeing as the ecocharger had 6 ribs, the belt is suppose to be on the outer ribs(towards the coolant bottle)
but mine was on the inside and it would squeal bad till warmup
once i moved the belt the noise was cured instantly,
cold startup in 45 degree weather and not a peep.
My belt is on the inner ribs.....
yea suppose to use the outter ribs because they then all are lined up properly.
I also solved my belt problem. two bolts in the alternator weren't tight hence the belt loosing tension at the alternator making it move a tad bit.
