i woke up with a vision. i dont know much bout gm systems. but i wanted to try something. i have an 04 cavalier. wanted to see if i would be able to get the sky motor and slap it on. i know it will. but is it worth it. its a new motor. but i want it cause its already meant for boost. this intrigued me cause my freinds srt 4. with just a bigger turbo and some tuning he was able to get 430 hp. stock motor, and now beats on viper srts. this is what i want to do. has anyone heard of this. or anyone know exactly what i need to do this. i know motor, ecu, and wire harness. anything else? help me out guys. what would also help is if there are any links to this related topic. anything would help. thanks,.

if im correct the sky red lines use the 2.0 engine thats in the cobalt ss/sc, except its turbocharged. I dont believe anyone has swapped in the 2.0 motor so i doubt anyone can give you the exact information your looking for. With that in mind, prepare for the possibility of ALOT of customization being needed. The 2.2 tranny will bolt up to the 2.0 engine as well.. although im not sure about the axels/motor mounts/pretty much everything else
i say go for it if your looking for a project.
the Ion ECU will not interface with the J-body BCM. you'll have a lot of re-wiring and programming to do.

“When you come across a big kettle of crazy, it’s best not to stir it.”
so with your replies. i think the motor mounts would be the same. i know the tranny will bolt up. axles might be the same ones. im just wondering if the s/c and turbo motors are the same.has far has the ecu and bcm not mating. can the solstice mate? i know these are all the same motors. i dont mind the s/c gm but im not a fan off s/c.s

The only way Id see this being a good plan is if youve got the donor car and have a lot of tools and parts to fab what you need thats custom.
if you are talking about buying the saturn motor, wiring and everything else, and then swapping it into the cav... Id say ditch that idea in favor of putting all the money you would have spent on just getting the parts for the swap into the 2.2 you already have.
If you pit the money against buying parts for the swap, and time itll take (opportunity cost) versus what you can do to a 2.2 Eco, with that same money time time... you can create one hell of a monster motor.
On that note, I still think itd be cool to have done the swap, to show that it can be done, and what it would take... since a LOT of people have asked about the swap.
My $.02
well i have about 66,000 miles on this eco. i dont think it would be wasted money on that motor. just because its a new motor. if this whole idea is to much i might just go with the cobalt ss motor. and the reason why i want the whole package. so i dont have anything to worry about. like motor blowing up. the g/m 2.0 s/c is meant for that. plus your right it would take a while for that setup. before all this i was thinkin bout the hahn setup. but it would be sweet running that turbo motor with the hahn setup and get more out of that kit. compared to just a 8 psi - 10 cause its an n/a motor. you know what im saying

if you searched , youd know its all a waste of time and money
for the cost you can do rods and pistons in your motor , and toss 20psi from a turbo on it and drive it daily
my friend has a hahn stage 5 dyno'd at 280hp , and the motor inside is still 100% stock
The Sky Redline/Solstice GXP use a direct injection engine. You would also have to give up your power steering (belt driven and right where an axle would go), figure out some way to get a down pipe on the turbo, get all of the wiring and control modules (basicly you would need a complete donor car), and do a @!#$ load of work to make it all work. I dont even know if the stock fuel system on our cars is capable of supplying the high pressure mechanical fuel pump with enough pressure to operate correctly.
how many of these posts are there going to be about this topic?
the mechanical compatibility is questionable...
the LNF is direct injection, which means it needs between 500psi 2100psi of fuel pressure
electronically, it wont work at all
and the number 1 reason

True about the high fuel pressure, but the high pressure fuel pump is mechanical and mounted on the head (driven by a lobe on the cam). There is only about 60-70 PSI supplied to the high pressure pump.

regardless, it'll be damn near impossible for the OP to make this swap happen without intimate knowledge of the LNF and its systems, not to mention the Jbody electrical
due to his inexperience, I highly advise against attempting this.
besides, who wants direct injection anyway? its too new for too much tuning support yet... I'd rather wait another 5 to 10 years before I touched a direct injected engine
and if that was the case, I'd be converting it to conventional sequential port injection
but I digress and reiterate, to the OP, just stick with the engine you have until you learn more

John Hawthorne (John02) has done this swap with his 04 Cavy, and has the S/C along with it. Check out his profile............
SOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know his profile says 2.2, but I thought he had put a Cobalt 2.0, could be wrong.............
SOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!
no the LNF and the SS/SC motor are 2 different motors.
Gotcha! My Bad! I should've paid more attention!
