So after Kens whole spill on possibly supercharging a OHV gears started turning. I love my turbo but supercharger for the daily would be nice. So I did a little research and the saturn guys have a crazy way of running a supercharger with the stock intake manifold.
That setup is ghetto there are much nicer ones.
I guess my main question is would something like this be feasable for our engines. The adapter plate idea doesn't sound to bad and the possibilty of a frount mount to reduce temps is there if done right. We have the space to do it, but i guess my main question is would it be a feasable set-up?
If thats the supercharger i think it is (a m90 out of a s/c t-bird or cougar xr7) it will most likely work. There would be alot of fab work to make the mounts for it and make sure that it turns in the right direction and doesnt effect any of the other stuff in the belt system as far as rotation. The only problem i can see with the 2200 engines is trying to find a good location to put the s/c so that it wont get to badly heat soaked from the exhaust. The other problem would be is the TB setup. If you have it in the stocl location you would have to run a blow off valve. not to big of a deal. Id put the tb on the s/c where ford put it. have to figure out what tb to use though. This is a setup that ive racked my brains on doing for 3 years now. I want to do it but just havent had the funds to do so.
it looks ghetto, but I get the idea. I would think that a heat shield and some wrap on the headers might help a little bit with heat. It would definitly be cool to see somebody try something like this.
4 cyl Mercedes kompressors come with a similar setup from the factory, Miata guys have been doing this for years, I've even seen it on a Neon. There was a 2.3 posted on here a while ago w/ a similar M90 setup.
Oh ya, that looks too small to be an M90.
fortune cookie say: better a delay than a disaster
So what about the location of the TB determines there is a blow off valve needed? And where would you mount the blow off valve? Also would you not need to get the ECU flashed for this setup? And what about extra fuel?
It's been raining like crazy down here in Houston so I haven't been able to go out and get a radiato support bracket. I see that as the hardest part stopping this whole thing. So I need the support to play with to see if I can modify it so it doesn't have to moved or anything.
hey josh what web site did you find that on my brother has a saturn and would like to get more info on a supercharging his. thanks.
I believe I got it off sixthsphere.com or plastikracing.com.

Yeah, remote-mounted superchargers are nothing new. Jackson Racing's kit for the miata does the same thing, i believe the stock blower on the 4AGZE's in the 1st gen MR2's was similar as well, bahn brenner has an autorotor setup for the VW 1.8/2.0 8v's that is remote mounted and intercooled also. I toyed with the idea for a while but then figured that if I was going to put a blower that close to the header, it might as well be a turbo

Well after sine testing 1.) a heat sheild wouldn't be required header wrap is an idea but neccasary. I don't have air conditioning. So the charger coukd sit down there.
Scarab 2 wrong things in your statements 1.) Bahn Brenner doesn't use autorotor they lysholm twin screw setups. There are systems for the MK I/II 1.8 counter flow motor that are autorotor but they are not for the 2.0 and they are not retailed by bahn brenner. 2.) the remote mount setup of the bahn brenner kit sits no were near the header due to the header being at the back of the block it sits basically on top of the upper intake manifold.
Sorry if I sounded like an ass. I'm Dubber helping out a fellow dubber for the future. Oh i love VW
I know the bahn brenner kit doesn't mount near the header dude, the point was that its remote mounted, and not on an intake manifold. I had sworn I saw an autorotor logo on the schematic of the blower on their site, but rechecked it and its not there... this is what i get for looking at so many different parts and setups for so many different cars (automotive ADD)... lol...

Yep just let you know I've driven a bahn brenner car and htere is nothing else like it. Even there G60 work that bahn does is amazing but they are an exclusive lysholm dealer as well whipple. I drive a nuespeed charged beetle every other day but it was involved in an accident 2 weeks ago
but we get it back tomorrow. But I have a high altitude pulley waiting to go on.
Its not that we cant do it.. Its that there is close to NO room under the hood in the 2200s That 90 percent of the battle..
This is true. I'm not going to lie once your project fell through I liked the idea so much I wanted find a different option but now that your thread is resurrected I was thinking about just buying a 4 bolt m62 (most available and common) and sending it your way.
I know how you feel man.. Alot of people would love to S/c there 2200... Plus with an M62 on a 2200. you could Run upwards of 10-12 psi and stay in the limits of the Delta temps range no problem
I have an M62 sitting on my floor that I was using to mock up for my remote set-up but its from a LSJ. Personally I don't find it cost effective to build a manifold off this style mainly due to them being expensive to pick up. But the older 4 bolt style would be perfect, there are plenty of them readily available at reasopnable prices. I'm going junkyard shopping and see what I can dig up and possibly send it your way, if my budget doesn't tighten up quick.
Yea that would be cool. The Lsj one like you said just isn't affordable or practical.. but the 4 bolt like your talk about would be.. I am still willing to make it work if you want to send one this way. it doesn't even have to spin, just needs to sit there for the mock up ya know..
This is the Style S/C I wanted to use. the one for the 1 gen 3800s..

Yea, I couldn't go to the junkyard, houston weather is so unpredictable these days. It bites the big one majorly. The car just went in to the shop for repairs and I purchased another vehicle so I'm low on funds with school starting but I'll see what I can do. I want to try and get this up and running as soon as possible.
After looking at the thread about putting an m62 on a z24 you have to have the pre existing GM kit so alot of m45 should be flooding the market here soon. So that is anotgher option. But since more boost is always fun I like the M62 but I'm just throwing that out there.
Ken will your manifold design have all the nipples to connect for vacuum sources and such?
Well then I have abuch of jewelry laying around that I think I'm going to pawn to see what I come up with. And then go from there but I'm very serious about doing this, if your willing. I just have to egt my funds all in order.
