Boost finally done, but have a question
Thursday, March 29, 2007 10:54 AM
Alright, so on my 99 2.4 we're done with the turbo install.. We're starting the car tonight after we get a base tune with HpTUNERS. I have a couple concerns. How do I make sure the block does not see boost? This is really the confusing part for us at this point..

Im running the 2.3 intake mani.. I have 2 ports on the plenum of the manifold, 1 for the TMAP sensor, and the other(that you can screw a pipe plug in there) is being used as a vacume for my wastegate, boost controller, or boost gauge(not sure which one yet). Im not sure what to use to make sure the block doesn't see boost.. Ive heard of check valves and all that but im lost..

Can you guys give me some ideas on this concern? Thanks.

this is confusing do you mean so your map dows not see boost??? It is really hard to boost your car and not let your blok see boost since it will be adding pressure to the cumbustion chamber...

some people bleed off the access booost by using a check valve...
I also believe that hp tunners you can use a 2 bar map..

horsepower is how hard you hit the wall, Torque is how far you push the wall with you

Sorry to confuse, I am as well... Yeah, the check valve.. Not sure where to put it..

Boost can be throttle controlled. Just make sure ur boost gauge is hooked up and dont mash the gas. If u see the gauge going into boost zone let off the car. It is possible to drive a boosted car and not have it in boost.

t off the map.. and make sure that the check valve will let out the access boost pressure the map see's but wont let vacume leak out.. I personially dont use a check valve my map freaked out when i put it on..

Hey bro...

If you're talking about the crank case not seeing boost then if you're plumbing the PCV system back into a charge pipe that sees boost you put a check valve there.

If you're plumbing that to the intake pipe pre-turbo then you can do it straight, tho I recommend a catch can.

If you're talking about the map sensor seeing boost... I've personally never had to put a check valve on it, it never wigged out on me. If you're trying to stay out of boost then just keep your foot off the gas and watch your boost gauge.

If you have any more q's I'm on AIM... your question was a tidge vague so I just tried to answer what came to mind.

Id assume hes saying he wants to keep boost out of the crankcase. WIth his motor i bet he wants to get as much boost as possible in the combustion chambers

you need to start your question over...... you have all these guys (well, except Monkey and maybe Chris) confused......

As long as you dont run the vent tube from the timing chain housing, or the a/o seperator, to the intake manifold or charge pipes, your block will not see boost (UNLESS you had your 2.3 manifold machined to keep that stupid vacuum channel like the 2.4 manifold.... then you need to pull your intake off, and block off the hole in the head...... ) Just the combustion chamber will (other then blow by into the block I guess)

My question..... why are you running a TMAP? (as in Ecotec Temp and 2.5 bar MAP sensor?)

Your tuning for boost, I would assume, with HPT....... so putting a check valve on the MAP sensor would be pointless (not sure why these guys where telling you to)

anyway.......

Sorry guys, dumb retarted question.. I have no tubes running back into my intake manifold from the block.. Figured it out lastnight just actually taking time to look at it lol... Im good to go..

On a side note, got the car started, and tuned lastnight with HP.. Tuned it to be a good idle AFR and did a quick street tune as well.. Idles damn near perfect.. I also have 6 gallons of 110 in there hehe..

Ill have pics up today in the photo section.. No vids yet though

Thanks for the help.. Sorry to confuse you all lol.

yeah, I have absolutely no idea why you wasted money on a tmap
