2.4l Grand Am S/C quick questions

Hey guys. I know i'm supposed to search, and I did a little bit, but there is a @!#$ ton of information, and I'm at work and can't spend all day reading it all, so please help me

I started to read the FAQ, but it seems a little outdated based on some of my questions, so I stopped reading it. Here's what I'm planning on getting, then i'll fire away the questions. Also, this is for a 1998 Grand Am w/ the 2.4-

paceparts - s/c
2000 starter
2.5" piping, high flow cat & dual borla turbo mufflers w/ pro xs tips
HPTuner's kit
Autometer cobalt series 20psi vac/boost gauge
pace setter header for j-body to be cut and rewelded (if they will do it)... if not, I guess the header is staying stock for now

This car will be dyno tuned out of Innovative Tuning in Buffalo, New York. They will also be doing the exhaust. I am not getting a wide band 02 sensor as this will never be street tuned, so I won't be getting a AFR gauge either. I'm getting a boost gauge pretty much cause it'll be nice to see my vac / boost... and let's face it, it's cool to have when you are FI'd

What I need to know-

-How much boost can safely be ran on stock motor (i'm assuming at least 8psi, maybe 10?)

-What size pulley to use to get the boost (based on answer to first question) AND where to get said pulley

-What size injectors to use w/ that amount boost, and where to get them

-What size fuel pump to use w/ that much boost / bigger injectors, and where to get it.

-also, I know these s/c don't need / have a blow off valve, but someone I was speaking with had mentioned that you can do things to the bypass valve? Anyone have any information on this?

Also, anything else I should get / need to get OR that I need to know to make this run properly. The car is not daily driven, but will need to pass NYS inspection... For those of you that don't know, basically they plug into the diagnostic port, and if there are ANY codes thrown, you fail. No questions... it sux

Thanks for the patience guys, and once all of these questions have been answered i'll ask to have this sticky'd on the quad4forums I go to, as well as other grand am boards

1. S/C can't make enough boost to overwork the engine.
2. 370's will keep up with the boost that the s/c can make
3. Stock fuel pump is just fine
4. Don't know of anything you can do to the bypass valve, its best you leave it as is so it functions correctly.
5. HPT can turn off codes so that you pass pretty much automatically. This isn't necessarily legal, but it works.

sweet, thanks man

can I get a bigger pulley than the stock one? I was reading in another thread that this particular charger will only run 7.5 psi anyway, so where can can I get a 8psi pulley?

by running this bigger pulley, is the stock fuel pump still fine? i'm assuming the wal pump is more for turbo applications, but I wanted to double check on that

hey Gus.

go to pulleypoyz.com for a quickchange pulley/hub. Stock size is 2.8 and gives you 4.5psi. 2.7 gets you about 6-7.5 and the 2.6 will get you close to 10. Don't go any smaller you'll overspin the charger.

Your stock fuel pump should be fine. Replace with a new stock pump and filter if you're still on the original one. (might as well be on the safe side) 370 injectors ought to suffice. go larger if you want, since hptuners will be able to still make it run properly.

If dropping to a smaller pulley, you'll want to get alcohol/water/meth injection. go to coolingmist.com or look up the seller BECOOL on ebay.

and pacesetter won't do the custom work on a header. Either find a local shop to do it, or you're SOL

oh, and sure, you can get it from paceparts, or just look in the classifieds here, I'm sure you'll find one cheaper. And keep in mind you won't be using the injectors or map sensor, so you can turn around and resell them, or if you're buying from an individual, you may just get a lower price on the s/c and let them sell them seperately.

if you want a little bling on your charger, and a little more efficiency out of it, read this post. http://www.j-body.org/forums/read.php?f=40&i=122082&t=122082 and see the outcome in this post http://www.j-body.org/forums/read.php?f=40&i=126161&t=124149&p=1

kinda need it to keep the blower from getting heat soaked with the smaller pulley

230054627308 ebay 179 bucks just need a tank for like 25 more.

m3 or m4 injector is recommended for the alchy

just run 50% distilled water and 50% heet in the yellow bottles.
