progress pics on 98 2200 5 speed

I got a few more things accomplished over the last few weeks. I hacked up a charge pipe, mounted the secondary injectors and wired the controller and a few other things. All that is left is to finish up the BOV and charge pipe, install the wideband, add an oil dipstick and connect a few vacuum lines. Here are some new pics of the progress:

My eyes are playing tricks on me. Do I see an exhaust tip goin g to the turbo.?

Um yeah about that.....er...... i think the word hack definately comes to mind. Now just clock that turbo about 180 degrees give or take 10 degrees and route some piping and an intercooler so you can run a little more boost and get more power for your dollar. But good luck with your project.

If you tune with water injection, you can run without an intercooler. We have had guys do it in the syclone/typhoon world 20+psi.

1992 Typhoon. Lots of mods.

that is true if you run a progressive controller you can tune with higher boost levels without an intercooler as long as intake temps are where they should be but an intercooler is like free cooling compared to the consumption of methanol.

Best optiobn, run all that piping under the engine if you can, or at least not right overtop the biggest heat source in the entire engine bay. You'll be glad you did when you dont heat the air in your charge pipes.

Confused myself with the 2.2L. Grab some heat wrap and wrap them pipes up good. Helps a bit.

Man, I know you said that was kind of cobbled together the last time we talked, but I still think that's pretty sexy.

Got damn, how do you guys let your engine bays get that dirty? Geeez, thats crazy.

You think theirs are bad, you should see mine. It's one of those things where unless you built the car for show, then by all means, clean your plug wires with a tooth brush and spit shine your couplings. Whatever. But if you built your car to drive it, then who really cares if it's dirty? Steam cleaning the engine bay once a year is good enough for me. At least I keep the interior and exterior clean...

^^ Your right, I was just asking.. Also a clean engine bay lets your parts last longer.. Parts as in hoses, wires, sensors etc.. Show car or not, you should still want your @!#$ to look good lol.. JMO thats all

their is a guy selling an intercooler on the classifieds you 100.00 that is not much smaller than mine..
I have ran my car non intercooled and I promise that you will see huge differances in the power.
It would be 50.00 in piping and about another 50 in couplings. please just try... you will love it.

He's got a point. We intercooled my buddy's Daytona Shelby and without even upping the boost there was a noticable difference, and it was definitely for the better. And that's on a factory turbo car. With the intercooler we were able to mess with the tune in ways we wouldn't have dared to before. And when we did finally increase the boost, wow. Just imagine what it'll do for your Cavalier.

Don'tcha think it will live??

Ran like that for 2 1/2 years and almost 80k miles. Current boost at almost 8 psi. Car now sits due to rust, not a blown engine.

Around here, washing an engine bay in winter leads to rusted parts very fast. I used to keep everything clean, but not so much anymore.

Intercooler will help immensely if you don't turn the timing down from stock. Heat will cause more problems for you than you know.
