Duals VS single exhuast
Tuesday, September 19, 2006 10:21 AM
Im supercharged

Ok, Im currently running a pair of Magnaflow mufflers on my car with a magnaflow 2 1/4 cat and resonator. Now my exhaust is all 2 1/4 but it is the cheap bent pipe that reduses the size so Id say it restrics down to 2" in the bends.

My questions are...

A. Does a single exit exhaust net more gain than dual?

B. If I ran a sinlge exit and wanted all 2 1/4 could I use 2 1/2 pipe to make up for the bends?

1) Single pipes weigh less. Helps in the HP/lb factor. Not real HP from it in the way of piping though.
2) Singles are usually easier to make.
3) GET MANDREL BENDS! AT THE VERY LEAST FIND A PLACE THAT DOES COMPRESSION BENDS THAT JUST TAKE ABOUT 1/8th OF AN INCH OUT OF THE PIPE.
4) You COULD use 2.5in but just get it done right once. Saves time and money.

I was told last night that someone couldn't tell if I was being an ass or being helpful. Figured I'd help that person out if they read this post.

Dual exhausts are sexy. They weigh a little more, but go with it.

Here's how I look at the power gain:

After my intake, I bought Magnaflow's Dual Cat-back. Rip off, I know. Anyway, I felt a nice difference in how the car drove. The exhaust only flows as well as the smallest part (1 7/8"). But, I felt a difference, so with the duels, I believe I made the pipe only as long as the pipe before the y bend. So the duels opened it up even more. (4 1/2") Now, I'm 2 1/4 all the way until my y bend, then I'm 4 1/2". But at that y bend, you know, I'm not sure where I'm going with this.

Yes, keep your duels.

if you wanted to stay cheap why not cut out the crush bends and buy mandrel bends to replace them. Check out racing solutions for cheap mandrel bent pipe

Why don't you do a Camaro Muffler if u want duals. I think a 2.5 will be good to make up for the bends.

i have 2.5 on mine all mandrel bends i built it from the header back and i think it really helped not as the intake i just built im sure you know what im talking about.

But if you do a 2.5 make sure you put a resingnatior(spelling?) on cause it is really loud! the freeway is a drag

i have pics on my cardomain hope that helps

www.customtubesinc.com has jigs for our cars.. I have their 3 inch mandrel pipes cost me 180 shipped...

2.5 will be less...

I got mine without hangers so a shop charged me like 50 bucks to throw the pipes up, weld on hangers and weld the pipes...

so easy so nice so cheap...
