Project TJ Hooker(boosted 2200)

Hey guys I just joined up but have been lurking ever since I got my Chav in June. I'm been reading up on the 2200 as I know nothing about 4 cylinders but I have a background in V8's mostly L98 and up motors. I was thinking of the Hahn kit as they are close to me and I would have the ability to upgrade.

- Can I swap in a forged 2.4 rotating assembly or do I have to use 2200 specific stuff?
- I've found Eagle connecting rods and I believe Wiseco pistons but does anyone make a forged piston and rod 2200 specific combo?
- Speaking of forged rotating assemblies does any company make a forged Crank or will I have to order a custom one?
- Will the stock heads flow well enough with a port and polish?
- Does anyone make a boost cam or will a custom ground camshaft be in order?

I know the 2200 is the underdog, slow, whatever motor but I'm sick of all the 2nd gen DSMs around here whooping ass. I wanna shoot for 300 whp or is this completely unachievable with this motor?

Sorry for the newbish post.

Willard.

the 2.4 and 2200 are completly different balls of wax. some sensors are probably compatible, but internals would all have to be aimed for the 2200.

the eagle rods are great to have and i've heard the same of wiseco pistons. i have je pistons myself. i don't believe there is a company that makes a nice set of both tho.

i haven't seen any forged cranks for the 2200 myself, but there might be. some else may have. i don't think you would need a forged crank for 300 myself. the crank is quite beefy.

from what i've hear the 2200 does well with a p&p.

i have seen one company that had what they called a boost specific cam, but thier customer service reputation has been declining from what i've heard. www.jbodyperformance.com

i'm sure there is more to be said, but i just can't think of it atm.

Look into Lowfires build (I don't remeber if it was a 2.2 or 2200 I still don't know the difference hahahah)

Jbody Performance
great for forged stuff (including crank), cams, head stuff
Howell Automotive
good source for roller rockers, pushrods, headstuff, ignition, etc
ATP turbo
Good for couplers, turbos, intercoolers, wastegates, flanges, adapters
Car Customs
valves, pistons, etc etc

good luck with those 2nd gen DSMs. I don't think 300whp is going to cut it frankly

The 2200 will make it to 300hp tho, its been done before.

like he said the 2200 will do it, but what I've learned its a real pain to reach some good numbers(250hp+)

Different cam profiles, different ports in the head... The intake manifold on the 2200 is composite and has a separate, vertically mounted TB, where the pre-2200 has an integrated plenum/TB assembly and the entire intake is cast aluminum. The 2200 has a 1.6:1 rocker ratio, roller tip (IIRC), where as the pre-2200 uses solid 1.5:1 rockers. Also the 2200 uses a standard fuel rail and top-feed injectors, and the pre-2200, regrettably, uses side-fed injectors (the manual I have calls them bottom-feed but whatever) and an integrated fuel rail. Let's see... Oh, the 2200 has the ignition module and coil packs mounted above the bellhousing so they're easy to get to, and the pre-2200 was seemingly designed by crack addicted midgets as the coils and module are mounted under the intake manifold, making it nearly impossible to get to from anywhere but underneath the car. And if you're like me, you're the typical 6'3" corn-fed American linebacker type that can't even change his oil without big-azz jack stands, let alone get back far enough to reach the coils. I'm sure there are other differences but I've lost track.

Sorry, I went on a rant.
