Tuning Help???
Thursday, August 31, 2006 6:36 PM
ok, so i took the car out tonight to try to tune it some. i unno if it was some cheap equipment i was using or what but lets just say i didnt get the tuning done... I was only seeing like a max of 6PSI boost with my hahn stage 2. which i hear is supposed to be 8 or 9. also, i started with teh brass needle 2 turns out, like it says, my fuel PSI at max boost was around 80-81PSI, so i turn the brass needle in 1 full turn. and my fuel PSI stayed at 80-81. so im still confused, am i not getting enough boost? or whats going on. i guess i should say that after i installed my turbo i still had 1/4 tank of regular gas and filled up with premium after.. so i dunno let me know.

1. That brass needle has nothing to do with how much boost you run or the kit makes. It only affects fuel PSI. Since you say your fuel pressure is the same at 1 turn or 2 turns, I have a feeling your maxing out your fuel pump, its not going to last long.

2. Boost is regulated by the wastegate. If you aren't making the boost you expect to be making, check the wastegate, vacuum connections, silicone couplers, clamps, gaskets on the manifold and throttle body, etc for leaks.

The HRC kit will make 6-8PSI. Your getting 6PSI...sounds perfect to me.

My booklet, straight from HRC, says anything from 6-9 PSI is acceptable. If you want more either go buy a boost controller or adjust the actuator rod.

ok, well how come there booklet suggests not to use a boost controller. and since i got the fuel pump from them in the kit, why woudnt it be able to hit the 85-90 its supposed to?

4-8psi of error on a fuel pump is pretty acceptable.

Fuel pressure is not a judge of engine "safeness". There is no "safe" fuel PSI, the only way to tell is with a wideband.
