Problem with Supercharged ECO
Tuesday, August 15, 2006 6:07 PM
Today while I was driving the car quit and then when I went to a performance shop, they pointed out that I had oil coming out the the cam cover filter i have on there, here is a couple pics of what it looks like,

The Tech said it had something to do with the pistons, what do you guys think?
Any help will be great thanks, Josh

Strange, never happened to me.

I preach and preach that those things are a bad idea. But yours looks a bit bad as you may have a bad pcv valve. Personaly Id run a hose from the cam cover to the intake like gm intended.

EDIT: I missed the part where you said the car died and for that I have no clue as to the answer sorry bro .

The filter is a non-existent problem, the case has to breathe, the fact that you don't have it routed to the intake is fine (I am doing the same thing for a while).

The not running thing could be as simple as one of the wires in the TMAP not making proper connection, were there any codes or anything?

No codes or nothing, The tech said it might of had something to do with the fact that my fuel filter went out last week, in which I ran really lean, he said that I might of hurt the piston, which is why oil is coming out of the filter, But I dont know?

No he is an idiot, that is the crankcase breatehr, haven't seen a fliter like that without oil around it....

go rent a compression tester, or buy one they are cheap

and check compression on all 4 cylenders...

save yourself the guess work before you even know where to start

I had the same problems with my turbo'd eco leaking a lil oil from the breather filter like you have and i just got my compression checked and its all good so im thinking no problems. Like airtonics said, just keep it clean and see but i doubt its a problem.

Man why are ecos having all the problems? I agree with Andy on the compression check though! No point in spending money if you dont need to. Please keep us updated as to the issue, Could come in handy for someone down the road.

? does the crank case breather need a certain air restriction? I mean to ask can it get to be to un restricted like if you left say the hose or filter off? The reason I say i dont like those filters is the mess some make and one time i forgot to hook it back up and my car ran like crap!

I've never had a single problem with my breather filter. Not a single drop of oil coming from it. It cant be the breather filters fault if oil is coming out, even if you still had the hose attached to the intake tubing, you would've had oil pooling in the hosing or even worse i suppose, oil getting into the air intake. If it made it that far. So it must be something inside you crank case or somewhere inside your engine, I dont want to make you worry too much but it is a possibility. But then again, i'm no expert by any means.

This may be a stupid suggestion, but wouldn't a "Catch Can" work well for this problem? I know that it is not intended for that, but an idea. Just a thought.........

Most of us dont have oil comming from our pcv so a catch can would eb a bandaid for someone with that problem.

I push oil out the breather massive style at 13PSI+. I've gotten used to it and the big cloud that shoots out when boost hits on the dyno. I will be making some sort of catch can though just to keep the hood a little cleaner. I don't have any on the motor yet but I'll solve the problem early before it becomes really bad.

Oh and this has happened on the stock motor and now on the new built motor too. The new one doesn't push it as hard though but it's still there.

What causes this? Is there a way to prevent it?

its a bad valve cover............there is a bulletin for it somewhere. and unless you still have warranty theres nothin you can do.

But there is no pcv valve on our cars so how can it be bad?

As for the bad valve cover that is a new by me, and would like more info on that, especially when it came out....

to hook up a catch can you would put a hose from the intake to that port with a catch can in between, or tap the manifold and put a check valve and then a catch can (i dont have an intake pipe to tap, i have a air filter on the turbo, so i would go from the manifold)..... right?

just wondering...

i dont have any oil on mine yet, but i do plan on getting a catch can installed after i get my intercooler installed...

the breather on our cam voer is not a pcv?

There is no real valve on our cars though.

I'll have a compression check done today, and if that turns out good I'll have to make some sort of catch can I guess, Thanks guys

Re: Problem with Supercharged ECO

the pcv valve is inside the intake manifold

the cam cover has a maze of traps before it gets to the tube that he has the filter on , that maze is susposed to keep oil from coning out of it

when you cut the passage in the gasket for the s/c , did you cut it like the instructions said to ?
