Well im planing on boosting hopfully soon, and im tring to find out as much as i can about this as i can,. ive learned a bit from readying otehr forums but i found a web site that confussed me. ive read that a boost controller such as the greddy profec-b is one of the top buys because you can buy a switch which you can switch from a low psi to a high psi. Well then i read that you can buy different wastegate springs.
to me that is like
how do you use a boost controler to change the spring settings? so im still confused as to how that works. so can soem one help me out?
also i read that getting a MSD DIS-2 (i think thats what it is, something for ingnition/spark timing) will help me out. if i get HPTuners do i need this module?
i guess i have another question ... does any one out there know about this super 20g turbo that Hahn sells? i want the stage two kit for my ecotec and was wondering if any one knew when it was fully spooled up.
Hptuners is the way to go but if you have never tuned before it will be tough for you . You are talking fuel tables a/f ratios and all that. It may be way over your head they have books at bookstores or online to help you through it but they are around 500 pages with small print. But good luck search some hptuners websites and found out as much as you can. I think there is even a demo you can download to see it. Not to mention you need a wideband which will cost you at least an addtl 300$
the electronic bboost controller uses solinoids to bleed boost away from the wg. so it takesmore boost to allow the set amount to get by the solinoid. even though your using a lower psi spring still.
my personal choice for boost controllers is the turbosmart dual stage manual. greddy profecs are jdm blingtastic but hard to use on the srett and toggle between boost settings.
Hard to toggle? You obviously haven't seen my setup then. It's easier than pushing the accellerator on my car.
As CCfab said, a boost controller bleeds off boost on the way to the wastegate so it is fooled into thinking it is seeing whatever boost the spring requires to open the gate. So if you had a 4 psi spring and you bled off 3 psi on the way there through the controller you'd get roughly 7 psi of boost.
Yes, the MSD DIS 2 will help you, if you use it as what it was mainly designed for: A spark amplifier. HPTUNERS is a great tool but it cannot increase the discharge in your spark... so yes if you have the money I recommend you get yourself a DIS-2 to amplify spark and HPTUNERS to control it - but don't tune it yourself take it to an accredited shop with a dyno and get it done. (The tuning)
Hopefully a few members can help you out with the Super 20G turbo question.

Slowly but surely may some day win this race...
personally i dont like mitsu turbos
first thing you want to ask yourself is what kind of spool speed do you want. do you want to spool up fast which would yeild less max hp, or do you want to spool up a bit slower and make more power. turbo size is all about cfms, cfms is where you get your power from. small turbo = low cfm, big turbo = higher cfm
personally i like the t3/t4 60 trims, they arent the fastest spoolers but once they do your car will pull hard. one of the turbos people here will most likely say matches your car is a t3 super 60...its kindof the best of both worlds, doesnt spool up super quick and still gives you a nice power curve.
