Getting Eco Reflash
Monday, July 31, 2006 8:02 AM
Sorry for the billionth post on this topic. But after searching for a while I couldn't find what I was looking for.
I called my local GM dealership today to inquire about the reflash.
Conversation went pretty much like this:

Chris: "Hi, I would like to have my Cavalier's ECU reflashed to accomodate the supercharger I'm installing."
Parts Guy: "I don't know anything about this"
Chris: "I am installing the bolt-on supercharger offered my the 2.2L Ecotec engine, I need to have my car's ECU reflashed so it is drivable."
Parts Guy: "I don't know what you're talking about, let me transfer you to the shop."

I couldn't even object, the shop phone started ringing. Nobody answered.

What is the exact procedure for having this done. It's a 2003 5-speed.

It sounds like I'll be walking them through this procedure.

I need the VIN, the ECU number, and what else?

By the way, why is it that dealerships know nothing about a product they're selling?

most dealers are not GMPP dealers. And sometimes even they are like WTF?\\

When I went there asking about the supercharger kit, they tried to sell it to me. So, I assume they are a Performance Parts Dealer.

ahhh, yea man its a pain to get them to understand what you want at dealers when it comes to the reflash.

Let em know that they have to call Techline and have a file sent over so they can download it to the Tech 2 and then recalibrate your ECU for the supercharger THEY sold you. If they cant figure out what that means ( all GM dealerships should have plenty of experience using the Tech 2 ) then run like the wind!

HP Tuners will take you MUCH farther and get you MORE Horsepower then a @!#$ty ass reflash will... but then some of us just want reliability and some of us want reliability AND more power

Sorry just seeing how ass crappy the gm reflash is makes me always say HP Tuners.. and btw your wrong.. 650 or 425....

The 2.4 reflash was found out to be a crappy tune. we don't know yet what the ecotec flash looks like.

You think you had problems with a dealer? Try being in Germany and getting a reflash!

Do what I did...took the instructions to the dealer and showed them the part number on the print out and it says how to get the reflash. You can then set up an appointment with them to get it done.

If a German dealership can get this done, any, and I mean any GM dealer should be able to figure this out! Took me about 3 weeks to finally get it!

Also, HPT would be good if it supported the Eco chager. But, at this point it doesn't. So, I'll hang with my reflash, my soon to be smaller pulley and heat exchanger set up and go from there...so far no problems and I'm enjoying it!

Eh...old man with a Corvette now...it was bound to happen sooner rather than later right?

I would like to HPT to raise the raise the rev limiter on the car, and once I am ready for it, remove hte speed limiter as well, however, I am also loving the fact that I am currently getting comparable fuel economy to what I had NA with my SC installed on the car (this is important as I log almost 1K a week on my car). HPT is nice, and I have seen a couple of the things it can do, but unless you have the supporting infrastructure for it (i.e. laptop instead of a pc) it is hard to justify the additional expense for the program and the laptop as well.

In the future when someone deisgns a HP tuen that will work with the 2 bar map sensor I would consider getting another ecu, and having it flashed to stock and then build it up, so I can have both programs, but until then, we will wait and see. I have seen a couple of cars on here with the 3.0 pulley, intercooler, and the necessry support, and they aren't running into problems yet, so we shall wait and see.
