yea....so can someone explain to me why people with a STOCK cavi/sunfire with the ld9 charger on it are pushing 195whp and I'm pushing 172??? I'm kinda stumped on this....I'm about to kill my car....
1st off, I had a bag of ice sitting on the car for about an hour and a half...they didnt know how to hook up to my tach signal and I told them and they still couldnt figure it out... so the first run was bad, like 112 bad...the rpm signal was just erratic or something....they did 2 more runs and hooked up a wideband...17 afr....and one spot on the 3rd run it hit 12something....2nd run was 140 and I dont know what the 3rd run was....they figured out that they were using the rpm signal for the hp rating, so they switched it to mph and i got 172whp....WTF?????

they probably set up the dyno wrong, if they couldn't figure it out..probably user error
dont let a dyno number get you down man... there are things that can change a hp or tq number a fair amount... a buddy of mine in his RSX which has every thing for a N/A engine like cams, P&P ect... dynoed at 168whp i think or somthing low but yet puts down a 14.1 in the 1/4 mile here which is a pretty good time considering the elavation and track conditions

silver car - 305whp 315lbs.tq @15psi (91 Octane) or 420whp & 425lbs.TQ @20psi (94 octane+Alcohol Injection)
All dynos run on a Mustang dyno
sounds to me like you need to find a dyno shop with staff that know how to use their equipment. Beyond that, some dynos are load-bearing like the mustang or dyno-dynamics, and these will read lower than the common dynojet that most people use. Load bearing are better to use for tuning purposes, but will produce lower numbers because they attempt to simulate real-world conditions by matching the load to the vehicle weight, whereas a dynojet has a one-size-fits-most weighted roller and no variable load. Sounds to me like if you were on a load bearing dyno, the numbers are about right. If it wasn't a load bearing dyno, than it was probably just mistakes by toolbag operators.

FYI, it's not the type of dyno which is responsible for this. The reason the DJ produces higher numbers is in the software and the programmed "corrections" it contains. Dynojet believes people like higher horsepower numbers and they seem willing to provide them.

All dynos will give you different #'s. A dyno should be used as a tuning device rather than a measure of actual power.
Sport Compact Car magazine did a article on this a couple years ago. They used a bone stock Ford Ranger V6 and tested it on 8 or 9 different dyno shops. All the dynos yeilded drasticly different numbers, with some shops even using the same model dyno.

Bingo!^^
Factory stock (zero mods) I pulled 135.8 whp. With the S/C alone, I pulled 178.6 whp.
Now like previous people have said, don't use it as a end all to power measurement. Use it to get an idea.
Hell, on one round the guy tricked the system combined with a cooled engine and my car registered 201.3whp.
On that note, I'd look else where for testing as it clearly shows they do not know what they are doing.

mine dyno'd at 186whp and 175 wtq , in 90 + degree weather
the place that did mine took the time to figure out what wires at the idi gave the best tach signal , and matched with my tach for settings
for my cav to go from a 16.0 to 14.38 takes a good jump in power
