Can any one tell me if this turbo will work on my (3.1L). I got this turbo off an old man that halls scrap. He said that the guy that he got it from said that it still works. He throw it away cuz the engine that it was on was shot.Every thing moves fine,no rubing and the oil didnt look to bad.Im not looking for verry much boost.I just want a little more out of my 660.

We have no idia what it came off of ,or even a year that it might be.

Iv been looking for 4 days now for the part# and didn't find sh#%.If I can get the specs on this damn thing thin I would be a lot better off.If anyone could tell me what turbo this is that would be Str-8.

Out of every thing that I have ever lost ,I miss my mind the most.

It appears to be a standard t3 garrett. IDK, but it looks like possibly a 60 trim from a ford, cuz of the bolt on air intake. Ford SVO's and Turbo coupes had that style...but they usually had a bolt on air outlet on the compressor as well. However, on a 3.1L, it might be too small, seeing that it is a .42/.48. If it were a 60/63 you could probably use it. U can still use it, but I think it'll heat soak easy and be pushed out of it's efficiency range very easily.

I agree.

That size turbo is too small on our 4 cylinder motors, so I don't think it will be much of a benefit with a 6 cylinder. It'll be a fast spooling turbo but with barely any top end power. Try and find some compressor maps for a bigger sized turbo like a T3/T4 50 or 60 trim.

Go for it. Small turbo's spool quick.

You can use it but don't expect much out of it. he thing you'll have to do is use it on 3 cyl. Don't put it on 6 cause it won't take it.

That thing would choke his engine with above 300 rpm lol.

Exactly, go find another one and put one on each bank for a twin setup.
Personally, I wouldn't consider using anything less than a straight T4 on a 3+L engine.

Thats what I was thinking about doing but I don't know enough a bout this one to mach it up with a twin set up .If they are to far off from one another I would think that the uneven cyl presser would cause very pore performance and or harm my engine. As much as I wish that it wasn't, it is only a stock 3.1. I have a 3400 torn down in my basement but it will be a very long time before it sees the in side of an engine bay so I cant blow this one yet.

The stock TGP ran a T-25 and it worked ok. I had the origional TGP turbo on my first Cavalier turbo 3.1 swap. With the 5-speed, I reached 9 psi of boost at 1100 rpm. Since the stock 3.1 starts to fall off past 4800 rpm anyways, it worked ok.

For another turbo setup I helped with, we used a T3 stage 2 .48 A/R turbine with a T04E 46 trim compressor. It put down 229 wheel HP at 6 psi. I personally run a T4 .7 A/R P trim turbine with a 60-1 compressor and still achieve 20 psi by 3000-3500 rpm, but then again my engine is highly modified (Seeing that it get's 310 wheel HP at 7 psi and 430 at 16), but a full T4 on a anything but a well modded 3.1 is going to spool way too slowly.

To have your advice on this is a grate honor. Iv thought about the 90-91 TGP and the way that it's set up .But still not knowing the specs on this turbo I cant say if it's the same size or not.

What 1/4 times are you getting now.

Nothing different, I stopped drag racing the car. Last attempt, it sheared one of my drivershaft shop axles, so I'm just tired of replacing/repairing the axles or tranny.

In several months probably, I will most likely be restoring the car to a stock motor and using the current motor for something RWD, with a richmond 6-speed, etc.
