compression ratio and boost

okay i know most people go 8.5:1 it seems when rebuilding. I finally got an engine to rebuild to am going to do all the internals and the such.

anyways the question i have is how much harder is it to tune 10:1 with boost and using 92 octane gas?

i was thinking going 9.5:1 incase i choose not to boost after the build.

just as easy as 8.0:1 compression and boost.

I kinda thought that. i know using the lower compression helps prevent detonation, but i read that there are cars run 10:1 with boost from the factory.

to tune 9.5:1 or 10:1, would i probably want to start richer to keep on the safe side?

For the street, I would rather make power with more boost and timing. I had K retard on a stock NA LD9 on hot days.

A race car specific setup would change my decisions.

what do you mean "K retard"?

so for street you would stay with a lower compression ratio then?

Guess I could have spelled it out. Sorry.

Knock retard

I added a link for those interested.

I would stay with a lower compression setup myself.

if you wanna run high boost levels or nitrous levels also i would at least lower it 9:1. what engine r u talking about though? the ld9? i am building a LD9 and it has 10:1 stock so i lowered it 9:1 and bored it .020. this and thick head gasket will do it. you should have no problems with detonation. you yea make sure you use arp head studs also.

Stock LD9 compression is either 9.5:1 or 9.7:1 depending on what year motor you have.

Either way, to make your life easier, just go with 9:1 pistons either .020 overbore or stock bore size.

MAIN and HEAD Studs are also a good thing to invest some money into.

I have the pistons, head studs, and main studs in stock if your interested. Just e mail me and I will do all I can to help you out as much as possible.

Thanks

Higher compression is going to require a higher octane to prevent detonation most of the time. Especially with a lot of boost.

Blew it up, build numbers coming soon

so everyone has said pretty much what i thought. i am still tempted to try 9.5:1 and go from there. i am probably gonna go .02" over bore.

oh yeah i am building my OHV, that's right. ;O). i am doing it just for the challenge and because i can. i'm only shooting for 250-275 horsies.

karo i will be calling you soon. i am getting some money this weekend and will be needing some stuff.
