i have a 97 LS 4 door.
2.4 with about 70K miles on motor.
have a catback and intake right now. (few little odd's and ends) but none of those really matter for this post. lol.
I plan to build my own turbo kit. but need some suggestions as to what to put on.
T3 flange turbo? Which is best for a very mild turbo build. (6-7 psi intercooled)
Fuel injector size?
Intercooler size (keeping stock bumper, want it hidden)
and any other things you can think of that i should need to know.

No one can really tell you a "best" turbo because it really depends on what you're aiming for power wise and whether you want a smaller or bigger turbo. Probably the most popular turbo around here to use is the T3 Super 60 but others go bigger, others go smaller. Check out compressor maps and also make friends with people who have 2.4s that are turbo'd and get their opinions.

Fuel injector size?
Once again, depends on your power goals.

You basically have to eye it out. The one I have is 31x5x3. You can find these dime a dozen.
If you have anymore questions, just ask.

i read the faq... i was just looking for a best of, or recommended set up.
i am aiming for a decent upgrade, but not a giant one. i'd like to be making around 200-250hp. spooling range 3KRPM-4500RPM, max boost at about 5300RPMs.
don't need anything to big, and dare i say it, its going on an auto :X
...
yeah, thats just the ideal set up. lol. not so much reality. lol.
i was thing about a t3 .60trim, but wasn't sure on how much power thats creating. Not to famialar with turbo's on j's. More so on a 2.4.
I've seen the numbers put down by the Eco's and 2200's, just never looked much into the 2.4's.
...
T3s60 all the way on your stock block....48 turbine will spool up full boost by 2.5-3K, which is alot better than 5300
Believe me, I had a t3/t04e on mine for two years and hated how late it spooled, full boost by 4.5K on a redline of 5600 sucked. But the power from it was nice.
Failure is not failure if you learn from it
Go re-read the faq. Search the boost forum. MANY recommendations have been made in the past.
Hell PJ went as far as putting up compressor maps for the completely useless newbs to look at and determine how good a super60 is for an LD9... too bad 90% of the .org can't read a compressor map, even with his basic explaination of how to do so.
Seriously. The info is EVERYWHERE.
Also, nobody knows how well your motor is running currently. Have you run a compression test? Maybe you're not flowing as well as stock.. who knows. There are SO many factors when choosing a turbo itself it's not funny. Once you calculate the CFM, pick a turbo via compressor map and determine your power goals THEN you can purchase your supporting mods like intercooler, injectors, fuel management, etc.
It's not... that... hard.

motor runs strong as can be. still plenty of power there and still produces lots o' torque.
with only having 70K on it, and it being well treated I have yet to have any motor problems. I was getting a bit of a miss at idle, but a new set of spark plugs went in, and problem was gone.
I am only looking for 200-250 range. Nothing stupid fast. If I could hit 225, i'd be more than happy, hell 200 is fine with me
...
So you're going off the dyno to assume how healthy your motor is then?
My point is this: Flow the engine, or find out what the stock engine can flow and what its VE is. Then chart it out on compressor maps. Pick your turbo
Then pick your power goal, and buy your according supporting mods once you've done the math.
Building an engine is not like putting together Mr. Potato Head - it takes a LOT of math to get it right. Why do you think you see some people running 200 whp at 7 psi and others running almost 300 at 7psi??? Somebody went about things the right way.
As I said. Don't assume, go find out how the motor is doing and crunch the #'s, or at least look at the maps that PJ kindly provided.

Slowly but surely may some day win this race...
I looked at a few maps on Garrett's web site. as far as powerband and what not, im looking at the t3 super 60. I checked out Hahn's race craft for turbos, but i can't say im fond of a Eclipse turbo.
I plan on actually building the motor a bit.
9:1 forged pistons
Forged rods
ARP headbolts
port the intake manifold
throttle body
and do a 2.5 exhuast.
on top of the turbo goodies (i.e. bov, intercooler, turbo timmer, fmu/fpr, ect ect.)
So im not really going so much of a stock bolt on. But at the same time, not a major build. Just a mild turbo build, good enough to see high 13's or better.
and i have a question about the fuel pump too.
will a adjustable inline fuel pump damage/brake down the stock fuel pump?
...
inline fuel pump is "after" the stock fuel pump.
i know that! thats why im asking if its going to destroy the stock fuel pump. Does the excess pressure being drawn from it effect the factory pump? or does it just 'cause the stock fuel pump to run normal, but still be able to gather more pressure in the lines
...
Again this question has been answered I did a 3 second search and found 4 different posts about the subject. God.. bro use that search button.
The answer is NO it won't kill the stock pump but IF the stock pump fails you are in for a world of hell if the motor goes lean. While you're not asking it to flow a high pressure you're asking it to flow a HIGH VOLUME... people tend to forget that pressure = volume.
So while you're flowing a high pressure with the 2nd pump it's still demanding a larger volume. Will it directly KILL the pump? No. But it can wear it down or it can be asking too much of the stock pump over time. You need to find out what kind of volume the stock pump free flows....
Oh and look at that it's in the library on the site. Go find it... crunch the #'s of what kind of pressure and fuel volume you need, and decide what to do from there.
As I said earlier:
It's not..... that...... hard.

Sunfighter, normally I respect all of your opinions and most of all your car. But lately, you have really been being a prick. I've been reading through some recent boost posts and your just ripping on everybody. I realize that your the greatest thing to walk the earth but spare me. Take the tampon out and stop ripping on noobs unless your actually going to help.
I am just a newb to boosted J's. I've been on here for a few years now.
...
sorry stenger, I wasn't calling you a noob, I should have worded that a little better. I was just using that term to label the group of people sweetness has been ripping on. My bad
I'm with Sunfighter
How many "I want to turbo my car, where do I start" threads do I have to read
This is all basic info... that had been answered time after time.

I understand where you are coming from with the same questions asked over and over again, but there is honestly no way to prevent that. Every forum is the same. There will always be people who don't search before they ask questions. I still beleive that you sometimes get too upset with people, but thats just how you handle frustration. With that said, I respect the way you posted, and I am sorry for implying that you do not help people on your org. Thats not really where I was going with what I said, but I can understand how it was read.
Not a problem bud. I just hope the gentleman who started this thread takes my advice and searches his ass off. Tons of good information is hidden on this site...

Ahhhh.....Sunfighter GT, I love a man who speaks truthfully wihtout any hold back....you put it very well. To be honest the posts that are put up in this forum have been extremely lame lately, I cant remember the last time a post came up taht I specifically was glued to and checked on, maybe its because I have researched a lot and/or used some common sense every now and then, and not so simple things entertain me but.....OH well....well put Sunfighter, adios
