I know im being a whore lately but I have a question that always seems to hit me when Im not around a comp.
so for those of you who dont know how a waste gate works basicly the gate is hooked up to a vac line. when the line gets into boost the wastegate sees it. basiclly when the wastegate sees a certain boost the spring inside compreses and sends the extra gases out the dump. simple right?well what if your a lazy poor ass like my self and you bought an internal gate and your boost is set to base at 10lbs?????
Ive been toying with the idea of a unit that would send a boost signal at any desired time and would open the gate thus leeting off at lower boost. creatning a 10 lbsignal wouldnt really be that hard since its such a small area to pack it into?
so what do you think.
thinks to shifted in advance. hes my boost forum hero

you deserve a spot on my sig for all your help

i am probably wrong but i thought you could just change the spring inside, because the softer the spring the sooner the wastegate opened causing less boost.

lol...
Well then, since I've been nominated I better step up...
Regardless of the area, even a couple PSI is quite a hard thing to make. You can test this out pretty easily if you have a spare boost gauge and some hose. Hook the hose up to your boost gauge, then blow into the end of the hose while watching the gauge. Now a look of amazement comes over you (or a light headed feeling depending on how hard your blowing) as the boost gauge doesn't budge....
The only real difficult thing would be creating something that can make pressure. I suppose you could use a small horn air-compressor, but I'm not sure if its capable of making more than 5psi or so. You can't add the psi from your intake to the PSI of the compressor (if your intake has 5psi, and the compressor is putting out 5psi, then the pressure in the wastegate is 5psi, not 10).

Buy stuff from CarCustoms Ebay! Won't be disappointed!
so its doable..... just hard.
Just wondering

if you really want to lower the boost pressure, i suggest getting an adjustable internal wastegate...they make "universal" ones, if i can find one i'll post it
but for your idea, it would be very difficult to do
problem is Im internally gated and the spring is unadjustable.

Do what I did bro. Buy a 5psi wastegate. Done and done.

Slowly but surely may some day win this race...
i had a 15psi (not that i wanted it ) , but if you adjust the arm so it lowers your boost level , youll have boost problems
mine was so irratic it made the turbo useless
its best to get a lower rated actuator , and go higher with a boost controller of some kind
I dont think it will fit my turbo
?!?!?!?

theres a company that makes a univerisal adjustable internal wastegate. it should work if i can find the damn thing
no way??? reallly
oh please find it
The damn things set to 10 lbs I cant deal with that all day although I probably end up any way
I wont have to modify to much will I

well all i could really find was a for sale ad made by 98redcavz24 on HMT,
Here
maybe contact him..sorry i couldn't help you out some more..
i know there was another one but can't find it at the moment
nothing personal , but
that thing is fugly , lol
the waste gate ?
you cant be talking about the turbo you havent even seen it?
yeah the gate is @!#$ but if it works who cares?
I really dont see how the wastegate can be universal
"
Kick azz is my boost hero!!! "
yeah me either , im used to looking at the pot with the arm on it
im guessing that turbo came from some car ?
and i can kinda see the turbo in that pic , but yes i was refering to the waste gate

this is very true, mine was the same way. once i touched the arm the thing would hold different amounts every other day. used internals are pretty cheap, i would just give you my old one but i don't know if it works correctly anymore.
Boosted Eco @9psi for now....WRX come spring.....
some people dont have that option

What you could do is the area where a wastegate is typically mounted on your turbo housing, well attach a flange to that and have a pipe running to an external wastegate, and then route a dump off the Ext. WG. That seems like the simplest idea? Why do you HAVE to stick with that setup, when all youd need is a couple of flanges (one on the turbo housing to weld a pipe to, and the other flange to attach to the wastegate on the other end of the pipe, and possibly one or two for your dump tube.) to utilize a totally different wastegate?
becuase the wastegate pluming is embeded in the exhaust housing. I would have to block that off. yeah.....thats not gonna happen. its no big deal guys. I guess Im just.....stuck.

I actually dont know
I bought it on ebay when I was still new to boost. but now that im a bit more knowldgeable I took a second look and realised its actually preety nice. its a 52/58 internally gated t3 nothing special.
ill take some pics for ya

do you mean 42/48??
i think those come on merc turbo diesels.... i was think the conventional internal wastegate, the universal one won't work for you sorry...
