Compressor Housing Question
Friday, February 17, 2006 2:12 PM
Well I was trying to clock my turbo a little better and I snapped the head off one of the bolts to clock it...

I tryed backing it out with the bit to extract it, that made it worse, so I tryed tapping it and that made the hole be off worse...

So I was wondering a few things...does that bolt need to be in there? I believe it will leak a bit of oil if its not sealed correctly with all the bolts, and also, if not, where can I buy JUST the compressor housing, it is a Garrett turbo .60 trim...

Thanks for the help guys.

Your question is horribly confusing. You talk of snapping a compressor housing bolt, but yet, you say there will be an oil leak if you don't put it back in. Are you talking about one of the 6 bolts on the compressor housing or one of the four bolts holding the compressor housing plate to the center section?

If it's one of the 6 bolts in the aluminum compressor housing, you'll possibly have a boost leak if you don't get it out.

If it's one of the 4 bolts in the compressor housing plate, you'll definitely have a major oil problem.

I suggest taking the broken bolt to an experienced person and/or machine shop and pay for them to deal with it. They'll be able to drill it out and tap it for a bigger bolt if it's the housing. If it's the plate and you already tried drilling it out and screwed up the center section that the plate is bolted down to, consider your turbo toast. It would be less money and hassle to just buy a whole new turbo altogether.

Do you have pictures of the problem? That would help a ton.
