Quick question about turbo...
Thursday, February 16, 2006 11:09 PM
Cruising eBay the other tonight i found a turbo kit from MaximumBoost for like 2 grand. Its like 5-6 psi, which is fine with me, i can tweek all that later. It says that no modifications are needed to the engine (even as injectors go) and it doesnt come with a FMU. Says everything can be plug and play so to speak. Just wondering if this would be smart, or safe, to run on all stock (including fuel system). The only mods i have right now are an intake, underdrive pulley, and bigger TB. If anyone has dealt with these guys, or runs this amount of boost, any input would be appreciated. I've seen Max Boost on here before, so maybe they can answer my questions.

Terry, I'll break it down to you why you SHOULDN'T buy the kit.

1. You DO need fuel modifications if you plan to run properly and not have to worry about detonating. I know this from personal experience where I could barely go past 30% throttle without risking detonation. Any company/person that tells you otherwise doesn't know s**t about turbocharger kits.

2. He doesn't use real Garrett Turbos, they are cheap ebay turbos that can go on you any second and are very cheaply made.

3. That kit is not intercooled. It's a natural occurance for anything that is compressed to have a higher temperature, you need to cool down the compressed air. Not cooling it down to cause motor damage and heat soaking.

4. He's overpricing on what he does decide to give you.

5. NOTHING and I repeat NOTHING in that kit is tested to fit a J-body. It is all universal this and that. He has no professional testing done to his kits, no dyno proof, no track times etc etc. He sells you this big ebay kit that could fit on any car but says to you "It's a Cavalier Kit" and when you go to put things on you'll notice that the parts are cheap and don't fit properly.

6. He doesn't care about his customers. If he did he wouldn't even think about offering such a terrible kit...hell...it's not even a kit in my eyes...it's a bunch of parts thrown together that don't necessarily fit your car.

With all this said it's sad that people still buy from this guy and it's sad that he goes around acting like he cares about the Jbody community when he sells such terrible turbo kits and rips people off their money. If you go to his website an Intercooler upgrade is $900! $900 for some piping that DOESN'T fit your vehicle (ebays greatest universal piping) and an intercooler that you can get for about $150-200. This is just 1 example of how he's ripping you guys off.

Hope this has opened your eyes to the scam artist that is Frank.

i could build a whole turbo kit using better parts, fuel mods, and everything else and still spend less then what hes asking for that junk that hes tryin to sell. if you want just send me the 2 grand and i will gladly and i mean gladly put it to good use for myself instead of wasting it on that crap.

It's no problem Terry. Unlike Frank, I care about the members on these forums and i'd hate for anyone to blow a couple thousand on a cheaply put together turbo kit.

If you need any advice as far as what direction you should go, ask away privately.
