So I've got my Sunfire for at least another year until the lease runs out when I plan to return but in the mean time I want to install some equipment in the trunk. I've got an amp that I'm going to run in mono mode but I have a question on where I should pull the signal from. I'm going to leave the deck factory because it's not worth the effort for 1 summer so should I splice both wires from either left or right rear speaker into the high input or should I splice one from each into the high input. Also since I can't be bothered to run 4 gauge wire from the capacitor back to the battery like I had in my other car, where should I tap into the 12V power? Hopefully there are some safe 12V sources in the trunk area!
Ugh, I forgot to mention that I'm going to use the amp for a 12"sub.
you need to run the proper sized power wire directly to the battery.

No "good" way to do that. You run the risk of really heating that wire source up a bit, trying to draw from the amp.
Ok. Run a single wire (4ga preferably) from the battery to your trunk. From there, add in a distrobution block. Run one wire to your amp, and one to the cap. Ground both separately. Use a multimeter or logic probe to find a fuse that gets 12 volts when the key is in the on/acc position, and do a fuse tap. Run your high levels off of both rear speakers, as you will get accurate bass from them. Some tracks do bass stereo.
