kickpanels and Speaker grills
Thursday, April 07, 2005 11:56 PM
I got a pair of Qform kick panels for my 94 cav, and they are sized to fit up to 6 1/2" speakers, well i ran into a problem when inserting said 6 1/2' speakers, that being the grills are to large to fit over the shaped area, So my question then is, Does anyone have experience with this, or can tell me of a 6 1/2" grill that will fit the kick panels? I don't want to leave a 200$ pair of Infinities at my feet without a cover. (it's a 5 speed and the G/f is bad enough as it is without something in the way of her feet)

Thanks for any help.

I was thinking I could reshape the covers on the infinities by cutting out some and bending them in to fit the opening, but Not sure. The infinity covers are aluminum with a small hole patern.

do they specificaly say sized for 6.5's i know u can fit smaller 6.5's in them but as far as i know they were never made for them.

you could try cutting down the stock grills, or you could try making your own. some thin hardboard cut to fit the size of the q-form. then take that and cut your hole for the speaker, then take some mesh to put over it, then wrap it in speaker cloth material. youlle probalby have to do like two layers of the hardboard to build it up away from the speaker itself. but should be pretty easy.

they come with grills...mount the speaker from the bottom and use the q-logic grills that they come with.

the q-forms didn't come with grills, and the size stated on them says they accept 6.5" speakers...I know the Speaker will fit in the opening, but the covers with the speakers stick out wider than the speakers do and will not fit in the whole. I'm going to try cutting the Metal grills, if that doesn't work then i shall be makeing my own...Thanks for the tips on how to.

brand new from cardomain.com I don't know if your thinking of the same thing....I don't have pollyfill with them either. but then again they are not enclosed either, the backs are open. It's not a sub enclosure.

Thanks

hey, while wysiwg is here, i wanna get those q-forms with kappa perfect components, should i just use those and remove the door speakers, or should i use both? will it sound better using just the 6.5? i have 3-way pioneer 4x6's in my door now.

i knew they'd be there, lol.

and lundis....it depends really. I would just do the kicks for now..and if you think it needs to be louder (or maybe you don't think there's enough midbass) THEN think about something in the doors.

I am debating now about what 6.5 speakers fit in my door. How hard would it be to make a pair of these kick panels for 6.5 comps, and how much would it cost? I know the sound image is alot better with kicks, so is it worth the pricetag?

The 6.5 components fit pretty easily, I had to trim a bit from the screw holes, but otherwise were ok, I also had to cut some slots in the grill edges so they fit around the screws (They were cutting it very close to the edge) I was running Infinity components, I believe they were the 200$ set..... so there pretty nice. But overall it wasn't to bad. Good luck, I think it was worth it...
