2 amps to 2 subs or 1 amp to 2 subs

i have two Alpine 12" subs that push out 250w rms and 700w peak at 4 ohms each. theyre not the most powerful but i figured im not trying to win a competition so theyll do fine for me!! but i was thinking would it be better to get smaller amps per sub or just one bigger amp for both. cuz i have a Sony Xplod amp that will pump out 250w x 1 channel @ 4 ohms so just figured i just buy the exact same one for the other sub. will having two amps drain more power from the battery or will it be about tha same. besides all the extra wiring i will have to do what will be some of tha advantages, disadvantages, pros, and cons about doing it either way??

itz not what u drive, itz what drives u

One thing your Sony doesnt do 250w but if sounds good for one sub, I'd do that. More Wiring? Maybe a little bit but nothing to complain about.

really depends you can always bridge a two channel amp and run two subs, but its gotta be able to handle the ohms and i doubt that sony will (at 2 ohms that is). i run 1 sub off a 2 channel amp and im pleased. 500 watts to a 500 watt sub. just remember overpowering the sub is normally better then underpower, as long as the gains are set. not saying you will blow the subs by underpowering but they will distort earlier. I actually have 2 12's but chose only to use one because i got more bass and a cleaner bass by giving one sub 500 watts then 2 subs 250 watts each.

probably just splice the wires to go to each amp...

LOL..

Not a good idea.

1. Run seperate power wires
Or
2. Get a fused distrobution block(run 1/0awg from battery to the block and two 4awg to the amps)

Surprised nobody mentioned this yet, but you're gonna have a hell of a time setting the gains properly with a two amp setup. Not to mention the extra cost incured in wiring and purchasing the amps as well as the extra space that they will use. Always better to use 1 amp unless there is a reason to use two.

I'm running 2 sub amps for 2 subs. I have 0 gauge going into distro blocks to feed 3 amps, a xover, and an audiocontrol eql. I didn't have any kind of problems with the gains, and it sounds uber good. As for the RCA's, i just use a 1 male --- 2 female splitter, i have two of them, so both amps have both left/right feeds into them.
