weak mids/mid bass

so now that i have finished with my setup i am a little disappointed with its performance.. when i was running a stock deck i had much more mid bass and overall dynamics and staging was good, but when i swapped my stock deck for kenwood (same goes for pioneer and alpine btw) i lost my mid bass and there's very poor staging and imaging, nonetheless the sound is crystal clear and LOUD as hell. but it is not what i want, for some weird reason i was much happier with my stock deck and the way it sounded rather than aftermarket.. it seems like all those crossover and equalizer settings that those aftermarket decks have are not enough to bring out a 'dynamic' and 'filled' sound.. instead there are painfully loud highs and brutal bass..

... bass only comes from the subs... and not from my components.. none.. and my HP filter is set at 80-100 hz (lowest point)

what does the system consist of besides a new headunit? these types of questions are hard to answer do to allot of it you really need to hear whats going on. if the sound was good before and staging etc. was maybe the polarity reversed on one of your speakers causing a bit of cancellation in your midbass region. out of polarity could also ause vocals to sound diffused and not image very well. id start with that. also go thru all the head unit functions and just make sure something funky isn't switched that you didnt realise.
