voltmeter

I'm going to be running 2 12 in. subwoofers with a 1,200 watt amp, a bottle warmer, neon ground effects, along with neon under the dash, so i'm going to get a volt meter so i can watch my battery level, and i'm curious about how to hook it up. I've done some searches on it to see where ppl hook these up to, i've seen ppl say the ignition power, stereo head power, directly to the battery etc. Where is the proper place to hook up, so I can monitor my battery power correctly?

Depends what you want to monitor. If you want to measrure the voltage at the battery then tap it at the battery if you want to measure the voltage at your amps then measure at your amps.

I want to measure the voltage at the battery since it'll be powering all my stuff.

does your gauge have a turn on circuit? If not youll have to tap off a switch circuit like the turn signal so that the gauge doesnt stay on all day.

I haven't bought the gauge yet, just getting the info before i buy it. So I should get one with a on off switch, or just wire it to my ignition or something.
