CD Deck with USB?

So I need to get a new head unit, due to the fact that my current head unit doesn't produce enough juice to keep my subs from killing the sound. So I'm replacing the head unit with something a little more nice-er and stronger in the watts per channel field. I'm looking at a JVC unit KDR 600 I do believe, it has a built in USB drive...Is this so i can take my flash stick filled with music and play it? or recharge an Ipod? if anyone has ever messed with this technology? or knows about it. Please hit me up and tell me if this is a good idea or not.

If the JVC fits your price range and needs, it should work well. they have nice entry level units that work. Not going to be packed with features, but definitely not total junk.

If you can afford to step up a bit, look into the new Pioneer's. They have some nice ones with USB.

Well I want a CD deck with a USB port so I can use a flash drive also, My Ipod holds about 1000 songs 4GB. But if these USB ports can play music off a flash drive thats awesome and I want to do that. I'm up for any sort of head unit that will give me a USB port and Ipod connection, I dont wanna spend any more than 150-200 bucks, I am trying to stay thrifty.

My Alpine 9886 is a CD player and has a little USB plug on the back. ran a foot USB extension cord out to the cubby hole in my dash kit. I also managed to get it with a free Ipod adapter as well that just plugged into it and ran that into the same spot. I don't have a Ipod but its nice to have there and when friends get in with their Ipod its nice when they can just plug it in. May also notice a little blue light in the cubby hole, that is just a little rocker switch to turn off my amp. The cd player can actually turn the sub output off too but the switch is alot quicker and sneaky lol

So your USB port actually run a Flash drive and play music off of it?

Yep. I have a 8gb OCZ Rally2 USB Flash drive. Just play mp3s off it. I have them organized into folders, you can chose to play just one folder, or play all folders. Or just paste the mp3s in the usb without folders and it will just continuously play all of the songs. Simple and effective. Has Blue tooth as well for phones with blue tooth.

Use folders. Its a lot quicker than going through every single song. The scroll on that head is slowish

Yep as well. Kenwood Excelon KDC-X493 with front USB slot. Using a 4gb Patriot Xporter Mini II with the slider removed so it barely sticks out farther than the volume knob. Ordered a KDC-X492 since it was cheaper being an '08 model and got sent the KDC-X493 instead for $130ish from Onlinecarstereo.com. Goodbye CDs!

Also if the subs are drowning out the rest of your system have you considered amping the front and maybe going with components? BEST*AUDIO*ELECTRONICS*DEALS on ebay have a good deal on the Cadence TXA series amps, and will take a lower price than the buy it now. Picked up a TXA-3004 for $100 shipped. 75w rms x 4 @ 4 ohms, 150w rms x 4 @ 2 ohms. TXA-3002 could probably be had for the same C-note, but I'm bi-amping with a crossover on my components. Only downfall is they are big.

He probably switches the amp for the same reason I do. Cops.

^^Believe he is talking about the OP. but my reason for switching the amp isn't for cops. I have a old ass Kicker 10" to mean it can hit pretty good but I wouldn't put it up much. but I listen to a local Rock station most the time so sometimes I just flip the amp off at certain times to not have the bass.

Well see I got the front speakers running on the CD deck amp and I got the rear speakers and the subs running on the AMPS. Now what happens is if I turn up my bass or just turn up my volume alone... My head unit turns off completely no juice to keep it running, My buddy said that my head unit inst strong enough.

That's something I've never heard of myself as far as not being strong enough. What gauge wire was used for the power/ground wires on the head unit? I don't use harness adapters or tie directly to the factory harness just because I know factory harness is not the same gauge wire as what I've got coming off the back of my head unit. Now that doesn't mean something with your head unit isn't fawked, and after going USB I say do it anyway

Most heads put out like 12 watts rms. Idk about you but 12 watts to 4 speakers did not keep up with 1k on the subs.

the highs on my pioneer ub6000 do great! and it has a usb cord thats like 3 feet long (atleast). i think the last time i checked it was around 160-180$ on ebay new.

also it does charge the ipod and it has a super fast scroll on it.
