Fiberglass Vs MDF

So i'm gunna be making a custom sub box with the help of a friend, but im wondering what the benefits, if any, either material has over the other with regards to sound. Both are gunna take equally as much work as we're familiar with both techniques, and looks wise isnt a huuuuge factor to me, but its gunna fit pretty snug on my trunk.

Basically what im asking is which one sounds better, or does it even matter

As long as each is equally as strong, they will sound the same.

If the fiberglass box isn't built strong enough, you'll have a higher resonance then an mdf built box. use rope soaked in resin along with a little fiberglass mat over the rope on the back side of the mold for added strength.

how many layers do u think i should be lookin at for 2 12"s? they're not too powerful, 600 rms each

Typically around 5 to 6 layers. I would add the rope trick for a stronger reinforcement. this will insure the box can be used for different high powered subs in the future if you want to upgrade.

Use both. Use MDF for flat areas and use fiberglass for the curved areas.

before calling people douches, think for a second.
how does responding to an 8 month old (dead) thread really help the original poster? particularly in cases like this where I haven't seen the OP post in this forum since this was made back in March?
the OP asked about benefits/cons to each construction material, and about sound quality differences. your post didn't answer either of his questions. if you're going to bump dead threads, at least try to add something worthwhile. please.

I think sundown may have cried at that "douche" comment LOL
