For well over three years now, I have had no problem with my install. All of a sudden my distridution coil gets fried. I saw that the power wires from the cap are melted and so is the pastic trim on the cap around the positive terminal. I am running 1 gauge wire, there are 2 150 amp fuses installed on the main power line from the battery. The alternator is 160 amp. The stereo still works, but I need to find the problem for why the power wires melted on the cap. The cap is a 2 farad Stingpro. Other than the cap, the entire stereo is rockford, even the terminals and RCAs. Anyone have any ideas why the power wires may have melted, just around the terminal on the cap?
often cap terminals....well, suck.
Chances are they were "Half Connecting", always arcing and slowly increasing the resistance of the terminals.
