its 3 in the morning and i was mounting up my new guages and grounded them to the a pillar, and yes i grinded off the paint, anyway i hooked the power to the guages up and nothing, the motor and trans are out of the car, does that mean that technically nothing in the car will be grounded since theres no battery or main ground at the block?????

Simplest way to find out is the borrow a volt tester or 12V probe. You could also test one of the gauges on a different 12V source to ensure they're operating correctly. Depending on how you've wired them, it might have to do with having the gauges wired to come on with ignition. You shouldn't have too difficult a fix, in any case.
