ok, I've been doing a lot of research and I think this is going to be a great sounding system without breaking the bank too much. What do ya think?
HU
Front and rear speakers
2 of these subs
amp for sub
amp for speakers
Plus a 4 farad capacitor, big 3, 2-gauge wiring dynamat, etc.....
All in all should be right a $1000 for system from head to toe.
Think this will sound alright?
I will build my own ported box to specs and I just plan to put the speakers in the stock locations with mdf adapters that I will make. I will go over the entire car at least once with dynamat or something of equivalent quality.
All input more than welcome.
forget the rear speaks and capacitor IMO

Hes probably right about the rear speaker, spend that money on ever higher quality one for the front, however i have been a fan of caps
Hmm, wouldn't the imaging be completely thrown off if I didn't put a set in the back? Maybe at least some 6x9's?
I have zero advice but I do like the X492 HU great sound quality and plently of options..even plays .m4a which is a hand feature when you to lazy to convert them. lol. I was wondering if you have actually tried out the 6.5's that were recommended in the post above ^^^ I'm looking for a pair of 6.5's for the rear to complement the components in the doors. My amp puts out about 60watts a channel. I says RMS is 200w on those..but I think thats a little much for the tweeters....just want to know if you have had any experience with that brand. i'm looking for quality (I have a Polk/MOMO set in the front doors).
im throw my .02 in again and say that if you want rear fill by all means get rear fill but your imaging will most likely be better without it. in my opininion put the components in the doors and kicks, get a headunit that fits your needs, and get two subs that you think sound good (go to a shop and listen to some) and then get the right amp for those subwoofers. but thats just how i do things....

IMO... ditch the rears and go with ONE set of components up front, ditch the cap, and ditch those garbage amps.
On the components, I had a fullsize extended cab truck and had 1 set of components up front, NOTHING in the rear, sounded awesome. Had a friend with a newer grand am, components up front and NOTHING in the rear, sounded awesome. You ride in the front, you're going to hear A LOT more from the front. For now, I would say leave the rear alone, leave it stock or unplug it. If you dont feel it sounds good enough, then get something in the rear; but not another set of components, just some decent 6.5 coaxs. So heres what I say...
ditch 1 set of components, the subs, the amps and replace with...
two of these subs
amp for subs
amp for speakers
Think of it this way - when you go to a concert, where does all the music/lyrics come from? If you're standing, watching the stage, most concerts don't have speakers behind the crowd. Stick with front only if you can. If you want/need to put speakers in the back so that friends in the back have music, I would turn them down so that they don't pull imaging towards the back of the car.
I would also ditch the cap, and put that money into electrical upgrades that will make alot more of a difference.

This will be my set-up (I am not too crazy on sound. No amps or subs)
Head Unit
Rear 6x9
Need front speakers that are not over $100???
i would try to find 3 way 6x9s in the same price range as they will most likely sound a little better. paying 110 for 3 speakers > paying 110 for 5 speakers

Yea niether is dual, rampage, lightning audio etc......lol
I've seen a ton of old profile amps in my time and they've all been very solid and efficient. Did they get bought out?
Lightning Audio has some good gear.
Their TC-built Storm-series subs are better than 95% of the subs people on this forum run.

well, after listening to a lot of input from others and wanting something that will be nice and clear I've decided on this setup.
These components for the front doors.
These components for the kick pods I will get.
This Alpine amp for the speakers.
2 of these kick comp subs
This amp to power the subs.
And the HU I'll keep the same. I'll spend a few more dollars but the quality of everything should be unquestionable.
i think you may have something there...

everything looks good to me except the amp for the subs. either give them atleast 800 watts, or buy kicker comps and turn keep the gain down
Bend down, grab your ankles, and spell RUN. You're getting raped on those prices.
Where can I find these cheaper? I've looked everywhere and amazon was by far the cheapest
Kicker is about to run a buy one get one free sale on those subs
you can get 2 for 150 at a local dealer
id say just get the speakers for the kickpods, and scrap the doors. get it installed and see how it sounds. with a properly setup set of speakers in the kickpods properly amped chances are you wont even need to bother with door speakers. me personally i'd take the money your spending for both sets and get a higher end set of speakers for the kicks.

sndsgood,
I definitely took your opinion there and after going around to shops and what not and listening to many different setups I have come to the conclusion.
Front kick pods are the way to go for sure, I'll be using the Infinity 60.7cs 6.5 components with the q-logic 6 1/2" kick pod (I would make my own but decided to go this route due to time).
For rear fill I am going with MB Quart DKG 116 6.5" coaxials.
Powering those I'm going with the Infinity Reference 475a-4 channel amp.
I'm going with a single 12" JL 12w3v3-2 in a sealed 2.75 ft^3 box which gives me a QTC of exactly .707 and a -3db at 40hz. Since I listen to mostly rock I think this box and sub will go great.
Powering the sub will be an Alpine MRP-M500 mono amp which will push the sub right to its max power handling.
I've already got 200sq ft of fat mat, plan to due the entire car 2x.
Big 3 of course and depending on how much draw this will all take I might upgrade the battery and alternator, but that will be later down the road...doubt I will need to do the batt and alt though.
Just purchased everything so hopefully I won't be disappointed!
