The steering wheel radio controls aren't working. I pulled the radio and and it seems that part of the plug is missing. Does anyone know if there should be 3 plugs or just two one large on the bottom and a small one on the top. My firebirds plug is different.

my fire only has the 2... but i dont have steering wheel controls... so maybe thats what the problem is... not sure tho...
I found a plug diagram and what is in the car is right. None of the buttons work so it may be unpluged or cut some place. I guess I'll have to get in there and look better to see if I can find the problem.

if you have a aftermarket radio you wont be able to get the streering wheel controls to work
however if they just stop working it is most likely fault of the controls themselves, dont know if you noticed but when your lights are on those controls get VERY HOT

Radio is OE. Haven't noticed the buttons getting hot. Do they light up? They don't in mine, not sure if they should.

ya there suppose to have a red back light like the rest of the RED color theme in the car controls and gagues. go to the car turn on the headlights it should happen. if they dont well it seems like it might be broken? my question is how much you use it anyway? the position for steering controls on the sunfire is really awkward position anyway bottom of steering. i wouldnt bother fixing it personally, reason being that as soon as you put in a better reciver unit you wont be able to use them anyway. and i highly doubt the wire in the back of your deck is cut anywhere. so... its one of those freak things?! cant think of anyway to fix it
btw forgot to mention, your plug thats connects to your DECk in the back is suppose to have 4 wires for the controls in a stright line on the bottom right portion . not 2
They don't light up at all. I use the ones in my Formula all the time. It's my daughters car so I'm not sure if she would use them or not. I'll mess with them and see what can be done, not gonna put any cash into it....I kind of like everything to work in my cars...just one of those things.

I checked the plug the other day. Everything is there and nothing seems to be cut. There are two blocks the big one that goes all the way across the bottom and a small block on the top right hand side as you look at the block.

the small block is your streering controls

Oh yes you can, with one of these. I installed one in my '98 Sunfire convertible; it allows the OEM wheel controls to control all their functions on my Pioneer head unit.
I'm guessing mine are not getting power for some reason.

YEah ben you can def. use the steering wheel controls! I know that the newer headunits are now setup to utilize the steering wheel controls.
