I've done a search on the forum and couldn't find any info to answer this question:
The cig lighter socket in the dash of a car is 12VDC right? I was planning on taking the socket out of my dash and running the wires to some somewhat low gauge distribution blocks. Now since the voltage is 12VDC what amperage is the fuse that the current passes though in the fuse box rated at? and what is it called? I'm sure that they must be rated to a fairly high amperage since there are high wattage laptop power inverters that can plug into these things. I just need to run the wires that went to the cig lighter to an in dash switch, then to a distro block and from there, to a few accesories like neons, leds, etc. And no I'm not running my amp on that line, that would be stupid, that I'm getting a kit strait from my battery for.
I just got a 10awg wire and ran it from the battery to the center consel area just make sure you put a fuse on it near the battery. Then connect it to a terminal strip like this:
