I currently have 2 12" MTX 8000s with a mono MTX 1000d. My friend just got rid of his cavalier and gave me his custom made box for 4 12"s. My questions is, is it worth it to pick up another pair of 12s since I will be using the same amp, wont it sound pretty much the same? Or what if i mixed 2 pairs of subs, i know i shouldnt do this but since they dont make the 8000s anymore i might have to. I just dont know how good it would sound running 4 off the same amp. Thanks alot
what are the rattings of the amp? what is the min. independence the amp can run on. what are the power ratings? i personaly wouldn't advice using the same amp.
RMS POWER (12.5 Volts DC):
500 Watts x 1 into a 4 Ohm load with less than 0.5% Thd+N
1000 Watts x 1 into a 2 Ohm load with less than 1% Thd+N
Dynamic Power (IHF-202 Standard) measured at 14.4 Volts DC
850 Watts x 1 into a 4 Ohm load
1500 Watts x 1 into a 2 Ohm load
Signal to Noise Ratio:
100dB A-Weighted
Damping Factor:
>200
Frequency Response:
20Hz-200Hz
Maximum Input:
8Vrms
Thunder EQ:
Variable Bass Boost (0-18dB) centered at 40Hz
EBC External Bass Control
Crossover:
Variable 40Hz to 200Hz, 24dB/octave low pass
Dimensions:
14” x 9” x 2” (35.6cm x 22.8cm x 5cm)
15-1/4” x 9” x 2” 38.7cm x 22.8cm x 5 cm) Including IsoFeet™
Don't mix subs, it'll sound like whacking a stalk of lettuce off of an albino seal. Another problem you might have is the "custom made box" might be too big or too small for your subs and once again make them sound like a mini hippopotamus puking on a red squirrel.
either way impedence wouldn't be too much of a problem
if all of them are two ohm subs you can make them 8 ohm total wired in series......2 ohms with series parallel mix or .25 ohm all paralleledx ample:
+ ------2------2------2-----2------ - gives you 8 ohms
2=2=2=2 gives you .25ohm
and
2-----------2------ -
/ <ignore> /
2----------2------ + give you 2 ohm
Any other opinions on how adding 2 more 12"s to my amp would sound?

Um, first, if he has 4 dual 4 ohm subs, he can wire it three ways. One would be .5 ohm, not .25 ohm if all were in parallel, second would be 2 ohm if he ran the subs in parallel, then wired 2 pairs together in series, the other would be 8 ohm if he ran the subs in parallel, then wired each pair in series, then series again to connect the two pairs. He could also wire them at 32 ohm, but that's another story.
You have 1000 watts running to 2 12" subs... and you want more??? I have only a 300 watt amp running to 1 - 12" sub and I have already had to reglue my rearview mirror back to my windshield. Last time I tested it I hit 134 db @ 40 hz.
