8AWG?

I'm gettin the zx400.1 kicker amp and figured on getting the PKD1 since I'm planning on upgrading later on to dual amps. Now, the ZX400.1 apparently has an 8 gauge power input? Well, some link on ebay says it does. But the thing is, most amp kits say that 8 gauge is for 200 Watts RMS. What gives? Can I really use an 8 awg wire on the amp or should I stick with the 4 gauge since I'm getting the pkd1 kit which can obviously handle more power than I need? Thanks

Overkill to 4 gauge. No reason to pay for 8 gauge now, and then pay for 4 gauge later.

I;d run 4 Gauge, because you won't have to run the wire again

Go Premium, it builds character!

basically the connection at the amp can handle 8 gauge. so you'd run your 4 gauge from the battery back to your fused distribution block, then 8 gauge from your block to the amp.

when your amp kits say 8 gauge for 200 watt systems they are talking about when your running 8 guage wire 20' from your battery back to the amp.

Ohhh, gotcha. So if I get the kicker dual amp 0/1 kit, it comes with 2 distro blocks. I'll just run an 8 from the distro block to the amp and the same with my next amp in the very distant future? Either way, I'm running a 1/0 from the battery with a 300a fuse to my trunk into distro blocks. That way I won't EVER have to rewire through my firewall (from what I see it looks to be a HUGE pain in the ass. So that's cool. Thanks guys.

Actually, going through the firewall is easy enough. There's a big grommet with a whole lot of wires going through it on the drivers side if I remember correctly. Pushes through with ease.

-thought process-: Wow, five outs? hey, that's usable for some 12+V accesories with a Voltage limiter. hmm. Lol. Is there anything anyone can recommend that will limit the voltage across one line comming from the possitive distro block to power my accessories? Because If I'm not mistaking, the voltage comming from the battery is about 14+v when the engine is started right? -end thought process-

- actual question-: Hmm, would it be possible to mount a voltage stablizer before my amps and the distro block to create the 'ideal' environment for my amps? And THEN put a 12+ limiter to my accesories?

And yea, I just took a peek out there at the grommit in the firewall...I think, is that the grommit that's in the footwell about a foot to the left of the brake peddle where all of the wires are going though? One of my friends owns an ACURA and said that he had to crawl under his car to run the wiring though the firewall. But that is an ACURA after all.

you wont need to have any type of limiter at all. if your getting 14 volts your amps will actually put out a little bit more power (if they are an unregulated power supply. cant remmber if theya re or not) just hook up any 12v source to the fused distro block for power from my distibution block i power my amps, my eq, my air ride setup and lights and accesories to the car.
